Forums - Sales - Will a Wii PRICE CUT Have a "BIG" Effect (like PS3's/360's)?!

no, its already cheep enough. and cutting 100 to amke it 150 would be to big a cut while 50 is not all that much.

I don't think that wii pricecut will do as much as PS3/360 pricecuts.

No it would do a lot like the PS3 price cuts will, a few weeks boosted high and then a fall back, but that is not what Nintendo needs, they need a sustained rise, and that will require software

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

The problem is the Wii is dirt cheap....PS3 had a very high demand for a pricecut. I just dont see a pricecut doin anything for the except a week of slightly higher sales...Price isnt the problem for Wii

help? sure, but probably not a ton.

I think what is hurting the wii more than anything is shitty 3rd party support. nintendo games are excellent but nintendo can't be the only one doing interesting games on their platform with sadly, imo, it the current truth.

That's half the problem, but that has been true from the beginning for the Wii. The other part is that Wii Music and Animal Crossing were not what people wanted, and when they flopped, there was no good third party support to fall back on (Guitar Hero was probably the closest thing, but I don't believe that was driving hardware all that much).

A game I'm developing with some friends:

www.xnagg.com/zombieasteroids/publish.htm

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

I'm not entirely sure it would. Wii is still selling on good levels and is showing no signs of having an off holiday season whatsoever. Not to mention it is still seen as the top brand on the market by the holiday buyers. If Wii were to get a pricedrop I'm sure it would obviously help but I'm not sure timing right now would be good.

I mean price drops are strategy not necessity. Meaning you do it when you think you'll have the greatest effect. I'm not sure dropping it now would be using it to the greatest effect. But if sales continue to go down then of course it would put it at the greatest effect.

I think for assurance on something like this... we would need to see September and October sales just plummet. None of which I see happening and I doubt Ninty sees happening.

But I have a feeling given just universal pressure that they'll do it anyways.

A price cut would help, but much like the PS3 and 360's price cuts without software momentum it would be only a spike and then a fall back to normalcy, so no a price cut is not the route they need, what they need is the release of strong software titles like Wii Fit plus and NSMB Wii

FALSE

xbox 360 has proven that NO BIG SW is needed.....a BIG price cut can sustain sales WAY OVER previous year levels......so I dunno what your talking about

It stayed WAY OVER EU/NA sales of 2008 for the most of 2009.......without ANY big releases (exclusive wise)

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Wii isn't even doing poorly, it will still be #1 when it's all said and done no so I don't see a problem

Actually that's not true, first off 360 sales are 12.5% over last year so far, but its software tie ratio is higher now than it was last year as well, indicating that it has been software driving sales, not necessarily big releases, but still more sales

I don't think so. Wii is already cheaper than PS3 so pricecut won't be as big deal.

So what if Wii is cheaper than PS3, its also overall more in demand than PS3, along ever demand curve there are always those who want the product but aren't willing to pay the current market price
