That's half the problem, but that has been true from the beginning for the Wii. The other part is that Wii Music and Animal Crossing were not what people wanted, and when they flopped, there was no good third party support to fall back on (Guitar Hero was probably the closest thing, but I don't believe that was driving hardware all that much).
