Forums - Sales - Hardware Sales, Ps3 Slim Surpass 550,000

30-40% of PS3 Slim launch sales in Japan were from existing PS3 users who wanted to upgrade their old systems. The rest were from fence sitters who waited patiently for the PS3 to reach a more reasonable price point of $299. If you bought a PS3 in the last 3 months it makes you feel sick in the stomach seeing the $299 September price point. If only I could of waited.

550k PS3 sales in first week. Huge drop off expected for second week. PS3 Slim will be lucky if it remains above 300k for the second week.

X360 only 20k off from the Wii. 360 with steady sales compared to same time last year. 360 had its price cuts start of September last year which kick started its sales momentum.

Source? else I call this bullshit.

Currently Playing: Uncharted 2 & Kingdom Hearts 2
2010 Predictions: Click Me

Games on my "Must Buy" List:

Diablo III (PC)
God of War III (PS3)
Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)
Final Fantasy Agito XIII (PSP)
Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PS3)
Final Fantasy XIII (PS3)
The Last Guardian (PS3)

1. Great for sony - hope the sales will continue.
2. PS3 slim didn't take away Xbox 360 sales. It went up from last week. And Halo:ODST is coming out.
3. Now Wii will never get to 50% sales of the three consoles.

With ODST + SLIM, Wii could take a back seat for a couple weeks. Craziness.

He just guessed, he has no info on this whatsoever.
To think 30-40% of those 150k buyers already had a PS3, that's just crazy..

Very impressive numbers, no matter what anyone says.

PS3 > Wii + DS combined = pure win.

I don't think that how many of the slim buyers are pepole who simply upgraded is trackable, I mean, how do you differentiate between the two kinds of buyers?

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

Wow, you speak very matter of factly out of your ass dont you?

Just like people downplaying the initial effect of the Slim, people will probably be caught off guard with sales from here on out.

The only way we would be able to ESTIMATE whether or not the Slim is selling to preexisting owners is when we see new software come out.

The first borderline title we had was Batman AA in america. You REALLY think joker DLC offset a 2:1 hardware ratio in the states? No, id bet it was the concurrent price drop and slims trickling out to NEW OWNERS buying a new game. Then they probably bought catalog games for 20-25 bucks used at gamestop.

The most hardcore console owners will buy the new model on day one. This applies to all consoles when new system revisions are launched resulting in a huge first week boost.
