After looking at the features list for the new PS3 Slim and PSP Go, just
about everybody would agree that backwards compatibility is low on Sony's
list of priorities. With no software emulation equivalent, and no UMD
trade-in program yet announced, why has Sony decided to abandon those of
us with older games?
I for one love Back Catalogue games - I mean I have a horde of PS1 and PS2
games in mint condition with booklets etc and I love playing them. The
main culprit of a title which is in there is Metal Gear Solid as I love
them. Now I have been keeping a very tight grip on my LAUNCH PS3 as I love
not having to rearrange my entertainment centre to switch from PS3 to PS2
when I would like a trip down memory lane. There must be loads of you out
there lucky enough to own Subsistence and Substance, Devil May Cry 1 and
3, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Gran Turismo - I mean we could go
on for ages.

Now - the news is out the God of War 1 and 2 are to be re-released as a
Blu-Ray bundle offering up scaled graphics in a blood curdling 720p -
which I for one think is a fantastic idea. I would simply trade my PS2
originals in for this bundle and would love it if they could include extra
such as Trophies, Deleted Levels, Extra Artwork, Trailers, God of War 3
Demo and such like.

I also understand that Konami are to do the same with their Best Sellers
such as Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill. As a trend I think this is a
brilliant idea as we all get to revisit memories only more polished and
offering more! I mean - how good as a concept is that? There are loads of
things in these games I would love to do again with all the knowledge I
have now. I think that in the absence of proper backwards compatibility,
this is a good way to treat the back-catalogs of older systems.

Now if this is the case - and those collectibles such as Ico and Shadow of
the Colossus were to appear as up scaled Blu-Ray bundles I think I would
definitely trade my old PS2 games in offering fresh life and opportunities
for the Die Hard PS2 Gamers a chance to get hold of a classic - whilst I
get to still play my old faves whilst not having to worry about the life
span of my Launch PS3.

Now I am thinking - is this Sony's plan from the beginning? Instead of
hanging onto the past - moving forward with up scaling and the glossy and
up to date BluRay Technology - It's kind of like getting your cake and
eating it, for want of a better phrase. The idea seems like a great one
and if these were priced right I would say this is another string in
Sony's Bow.

As PS1 and PS2 are the only reason the PS3 Exists - it makes complete
sense to do this with the gamer being the main focal point!

What do we think? What Old School bundles would you like to see remastered
and rejuvenated? Maybe not just PS2 but PS1 as well - the sky is the
limit, so let your imaginations run wild...
im happy as long as my ps3 doesnt break i dont want to replay those games and have to worry bout gettin there trophies and paying for a game i paid 4 already
