Forums - Sales - How credible is VGChartz Posters?

I got banned from Neogaf forums for using VGChartz as a source a couple months back. I've also noticed VGChartz is blacklisted as a source from a few other websites. I always wondered why..... but now... It's quite clear. VGChartz IMO has way too many fake and wannabe "know it alls"

ioi himself projected 600,000 PS3's sold in the entire month of September... Now only 1 week into a 5 week month, the PS3 has already sold 500,000+ units.

ioi also projected 50,000 PS3's sold in Japan, with 100,000 being the high end of his prediction. It ended up selling 150,000 in Japan.

and ioi is the most credible poster at the forum. I know sales are hard to predict, but everyone was WAY OFF. Can we all agree that most ppl here aren't as good as we thought when it comes to sales projections and everything posted should be taken with a grain of salt??

I heard it like this. People did not like the way their systems games were selling. So they often say that this site is crap. That is why Nintendo sites do not have many problems with us. One of the site admins said that I believe

I dunno, Neogaf is a pretty good site without much blatant fanboyism, and they still ban ppl just for mentioning VGchartz

You question the credibility of the site owner because of predictions??? Thats why they are called "predictions", its a guess based on personal opinion. If your off on a prediction oh well, big deal. And if your gonna question his credibility atleast have some "predictions" from elsewhere that are more accurate to maybe, just maybe back up your statement.

IMO the amount this sight gets questioned is just fucking retarted. Its a free service, the community is great, the database is just fucking amazing, etc etc. The numbers arent 100% accurate but I dare anyone to show somewhere else where they can get good numbers as fast as we do here. I think this sight is amazing and ppl should show ioi a little more damn respect for work well done.

I don't know about you, but 'banning ppl for mentioning (any site)' pretty much negates the possibility of being a 'good site'.  It shows they are not open to debate and that you deserve to be punished for not thinking the way they do.  Would VGChartz be a 'good site' if we banned you just for mentioning GAF?

I don't know why Brett was off on the PS3 predictions, but whatever it was, you seem not to notice that pretty much EVERY analyst grossly underestimated the effect.  So anyone who solely points him out is just looking for reasons to hate.

The fact is, Brett gets his numbers the exact same way that NPD does, just on a smaller scale (and representing almost the entire world, instead of just the USA).  Add to that that he adds the numbers weekly, instead of monthly.  Since the NPD doesn't release their numbers as often, they have much more time to go back and correct them before we see them.  Yeah, Brett has to update his algorithms sometimes, but the site is still growing and all it does is make us even more accurate.  We'll never be 100% spot on, but neither will NPD or any other tracking group.  We release numbers more often, and it's all free to anyone who wants a look.

Now, all those other sites, well, let's just say NeoGAF has quite the band of mindless followers.  Our numbers have been quoted by many game developers and other corporations as being pretty accurate when it comes to sales of their games.

In short, NeoGAF just wishes they'd taken Brett (ioi) up on his offer to do this service for them before he decided to make his own site.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Projecting sales is a lot different than tracking them. Brett can be as inaccurate as he wants in his projections, since they're not official numbers.

Brett's not obligated to make good predictions. He just needs to track the numbers that do come in.

still

In terms of news and sales data, plus using forums to get news from other sites, this site is by far the best.

In terms of people that post in forums, there are not many great posters. Most of the posts that get constantly updated in forum hot tops are posts that get fanboys angry. This is a sales site but most prefer to use sales figures to talk about how great they think their console is instead of discussing sales information, the who's wheres whats and whys about the sales industry or the gaming industry in regards to sales. A lot of posts that begin with a good discussion topic never get any responses.

True, I dont blame ioi.... but maybe the posters here should stop taking his predictions as Gold.

If someone in the other thread predicted 150,000 units sold for PS3 in Japan, peopel would respond saying "ioi just predicted 50,000 - 100,000, with 100,000 being the high end...so you are wrong!"

It's like everyone got their pitchforks out if someone thought outside the box a little bit.

I'm just saying... people's predictions at this forum aren't as credible as I once thought.
