Maybe because the Xbox 360 is a great console?

obama mentioned xbox so MS must be a liberal company which means they should be boycotted by the right! *writes glenn beck*

Maybe because the 360 likely has the largest representation among teenage gamers?

Maybe its because only old people and little kids play the Wii.

(Thats a joke by the way)

Obama is merely supporting American industry, are you opposed to this? lol.

No, but I am opposed to dirty politics.

EDIT: Halomaster, you really are running out of good thread topics.

He was putting the Xbox down as a bad thing to do as opposed to schoolwork which is good.  Btw, my profile is halogamer and I made this b/c I wanted an Obama thread in a "lol/semi-positive" type thread.

I am just to damn bust anymore Snes.  I am collaborating to start a campaign site hosting biz.

You did note the context of him comment?  Not positive regarding consoles at all and just picking 360 as the most represented amoung young teenagers in US - hardly a glowing recommendation.

What's interesting is the implied (in the bigger perspective bringing in other known elements regarding him) message that consoles like 360 (i.e. PS3 as well) are potentially negative in effect vs Wii.

In my experience nearly all adults 35 plus see Wii as a positive console for kids and 360/PS3 as negative consoles for kids, particularly the 360.  It'll be interesting to see if, via Natla, the Wand, etc. the HD consoles can shake off this negative view of their suitability for kids vs Wii.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

The Xbox 360 is popular with the demographic he's trying to reach, simple as that.

Its probably just what came to mind first for his speechwriter (or himself if he wrote that portion).  The Xbox 360 is seen as very popular with teens in the U.S., and it gets more space at retailers like Gamestop.  So while I doubt much thought went into it, its not at all surprising why it came to mind first.

Currently playing:  PC:  Wolfenstein  PS2:  Final Fantasy X  PS3: All-Pro Football 2K8 Wii:  Force Unleashed  PSP:  God of War: CoO Xbox 360:  Gears of War 2

Most anticipated game:  Dragon Age Origins (PC)

I think that it is an automatic response that any politician has when they need to mention a product or company to mention one from their country. If the american president has to name a car manufacturer in a speech he would say 'Ford' or 'Chrysler' instead of 'Nissan' or 'Volkswagen'. It just looks better to mention things associated with your country, people like it.

If he said Sony or Nintendo it could have looked bad.

Then again maybe I'm reading too much into lol
