Yet the 360 still leads by 8 million units, nice spin you did there though....

And please tell me you do know the recent ps3 slim sales won't last, they are high at the moment because the slim is a new product out with a bit of hype around it, when this settles down sales will fall again although they will be higher than what ps3 was at before, then the holiday season will be here where the 360 will once again sail past the ps3 just like last year,

Let's see what the end results show at the end of the year as I have a feeling a lot of you in this thread will be eating humble pie.....

Yeah, but what he said was right. Chances are, the PS3 will sell more this year. Even with a slim increase, it is just not on the same level, especially with 150k in Japan, compared with about 2k for the last few weeks. The long term effects will be more interesting, but Gran Turismo 5 and FF XIII will be enough to let the PS3 beat the 360 this year. The holiday season is starting, the start of September is a great time for a price cut and new model, and I really do think the PS3 will win this year, even if it does not erode the gap down much

Looking at it that way it makes more sense but I still think some people are predicting things way too early, noone knows how the slim will keep selling for the next few weeks and months, something like this (slim release) has never been done at this stage of a generation before, hard to know what to expect from all three console makers...

Yeah, while the PS2 did get a slim, there was not the same issue over price that there was before, so this is going to be biger... probably. It is definitely a wait and see game, though it is a certainty that Gran Turismo 5 and FF XIII are going to have huge effects, but the effect of the slim alone is another question

Why hasn't squillium made one of his threads? Or kowenicki? Usually Kowenicki has a GAP THREAD every time data is released, and squillium usually makes threads on how a console will likely outsell a gap made by another console throughout the year?

Waaaat do you expect me to post, exactly?

Tease.

And what is it with people in this thread saying the 360 is like the Dreamcast, the 360 is NOTHING like the Dreamcast, the 360 isn't a failure and is still selling at a very good pace, incase you forgot the 360 was up 40% last week again and is still the ONLY console up year on year for overall yearly sales,

32 million sales does NOT equal the Dreamcast, and don't forget the ps3 slim has sold well for one week, one week! a bit early saying things like this don't you think?

PS3 was being called the "dreamcast" & a failure 5 months ago

it goes in circles

1 year later when xbox 360 arcade drops to $99....the same thing will happen again

SONY might pull the rug out of MS for the next 2-3 wks.. but lets not forget the power of the mighty Halo3: ODST.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

Sony will have something to brag about and be arrogant again.

"The PS3 sold more than the 360, obviously. yay."

Preferably saying something about the PS3 sales dropping below 360 sales with ODST, and staying that way throughout the rest of the holiday and generation... that will get some people angry

PS3 will never close the gap. Microsoft seems to have made a deal with McDonald's

Well as quick as that may be, remember what happened in the holiday season last year. PS3 had essentially outsold the 360 all year then the pricecut and the holiday season destroyed that.

With 360 still at better mass market price than PS3, Elite now at $300, ODST, etc. this could potentially stop that when that part of the year comes. Even further with the vastness of the opening start for PS3, one could also argue that the majority have already gotten their PS3 now and that it'll die down even further.

Also trends show that consoles that get big boosts in sales BEFORE the holiday season, don't sell as well in the holiday season. This is actually reminiscent of PS3 going into holiday season 2007 in Japan. 40GB boosted sales early in November and it then went into a holiday season with subpar increases.

I'm not trying to put a damper on any of this, but there are numerous other factors that need to be taken into consideration. Although PS3 may overtake it for a short time, there are a lot of factors also going against PS3. Whether or not the mainstream will still want to pay $100 or $50 more for a PS3, whether or not Uncharted is enough to compete with ODST and New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and whether or not the Slim is going to be all early sales and not much legs.

I think we'll know more of this by October especially when big 3rd party titles start coming out. It's clear that PS3 has a good start and is going to give Wii and 360 some good competition but I'd still say the holiday season is in favor of 360 and Wii right now. But that could obviously change.

But GT5 has been confirmed for 4th Dec

& FF13 has been confirmed for 17th Dec
