Please I asked one thing when all of this was going to go down and that was fanboys to either keep a sense of reality or just don't talk at all.
Of course everything you see on the first week is going to insinuate everything. It's the first week. Sales are going to explode. Especially in the case of PS3 where I and many have already stated it was going to have an abnormally large first week in comparison.
But we can't tell anything like this based off a first week. We can't even tell off the 2nd or 3rd week. What need to do is wait for the hype of the first few weeks to calm down and see how PS3 works under normal pressures. How the price change and new SKU does under normal circumstances, new releases on all 3 sides, and of course the eventual holiday season. Now potentially after this holiday season we can start to see how it'll compete with 360 and even Wii in the long run.
This same thing, btw, was said right after PS3 got it's first price drop and then 40gb SKU in 2007. Things were looking good for PS3 and bleak for 360. Happened all throughout 2008 and then 360 dropped price and flipped things over. Have to give it some time before we can start gearing things like this.
All we can say is the opening was expected but still higher than most thought. But don't let that get to your head.
I'm still expecting about 9-10 million shipments in Sony's fiscal year 2010 but I will adjust if necessary. But I don't adjust based off first week hype.
