You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

But just thinking where the gaming world would be right now without Sony would be very scary, I'd more then likely not be here right now.
The PS2 gave us quite possibly the greatest library of games in terms of quality and variety of all time and DVD movie player. That equals 1st in my book.

That's why I believe it deserves number 2, sure it revived the video game industry and I thank it for that, 1) but the PS2 widen the user base by so much. 2) The way nintendo was pushing video games was not the direction I'd want it to be right now, they were clinging to the kids to much. 3) The PS2 brought in a more serious mature gamers, and like you said had an onslaught of new AAA games (seriously how many more Mario games can a person play till they go insane). I never really cared for the DVD player, I maybe used it a dozen times. |
Just because everyone thinks you have a pretty face doesn't mean you're allowed to spew that.
1) It widened it? IIRC, the PS1 widened it much more than the PS2. PS1 broke a hundred million and brought many more players in than the PS2.
2) What the fuck are you saying? That the NES, SNES, and N64 clung to kids? Honestly, it had a similar fanbase as the PS3 and 360. But considering that the PS360's userbase is mainly populated by kids and teenagers, Nintendo may have had children in their fanbase, but they certainly didn't cling to the.
3) This pretty much lowered my respect for you as a poster. It brought more mature games in? What the fuck? It had more casual games than all the previous Nintendo consoles. And even if I agreed with your statement, I could argue the claim that the PS1 had the same franchises as the PS2. The PS1 had a similar demograhic to the PS2 and it had many of the franchises.
So, the NES should be number one. Agree? It had AAA games which have created Mario (oh, and Mario is timeless, as long as his games are still absolutely amazing, I won't go insane), it introduced the standard controller with buttons and not a joystick, and it saved gaming.
The NES should be number one.

What is amazing about the PS2 is it's selling, and what is the biggest reason people say they don't buy the PS3?

Sony just split the legacy of the Super Nintendo into two consoles. Nintendo got the Nintendo games, and Sony got most third party games. I would have preferred if the fifth gen would have a console as complete as the Super Nintendo was, but that's just me.
I LOVE ICELAND!

@dtewi
did you really expect anything less of me, I am a Sony fan lol
And don't get me wrong Mario WAS great, you wouldn't believe the amount of hours I had in basically every Mario game before the N64. I just don't like how it is now. It's the same as Zelda I loved Zelda right up until the N64, if it wasn't for Playstation the N64 would of killed gaming for me.
As cliche as it is, the NES is number 1... it's just a fact of life. When it was released, there was nothing, and the NES single-handedly made home gaming into a multi-billion dollar industry, and managed to introduce a character that is more ingrained in pop culture these days than Mickey Mouse or Bugs Bunny.
The PS2 was the successor to the PS1, which in turn was the spiritual successor to Nintendo's previous gen console, the SNES. All the PS2 did was build on an existing foundation solidified by Nintendo fifteen years earlier.
Oh, and they had a DVD player too.

Wait? Isn't the Wii doing the same thing the PS2 did years ago? expanding video games to a broader audience. Its funny how the PS2 does this it means nothing but the Wii does this its "moving the industry forward". What a fucking joke.

What? It's still great. You didn't hate Mario, you just loved the PS1 so much the cast the N64 aside and tried to rationalize it.
SM64 IS amazing, Mario IS amazing. 3D didn't ruin anything, you just switched to the PS1.
