To all those who say Blu-ray "isn't worth it" and that "there isn't much of a difference between it and SD DVD upscaled to 1080P":
(Both were done using a PS3)

Here's a hint: The top is Blu.

Who's denying Blu Ray looks better?
The problem is I can't rent them from a machine for $1.
Also not everyone has an HDTV, let a lone a Blu Ray player.
Of course Blu-Ray looks better. It's just like with DirecTV where some of the channels are in HD, and some of them are in SD. The difference (*edit* between upscaled DVD and Blu-Ray) is definitely noticeable, but not as pronounced. The only downside, is that a DVD will play on a portable DVD player, a laptop, most home consoles, your friend's DVD player, an HD DVD player, your toaster, AND your Blu-Ray player. A Blu-Ray will only play on......your Blu-Ray player.
In the end, while I enjoy the HD channels on DirecTV, I watch a lot of standard definition, too. It's not as big a deal as one would think.
^^^Of course! And the difference is noticeable (720p vs 480i). Still, when it come to watching TV, the picture takes a back seat to the quality of the show. In the end, HD is nice but the story/show is all that matters.

When people claim that "Blu-Ray isn't worth it" what they are typically refering to is that most people don't notice enough of a difference on their TV, at the difference they view the movie at, when the images are not played back-to-back (or side by side) to justify the massive price difference between the two formats.
To understand why people might not see it your way, I want you to put both images on your screen and for you to stand 10 feet away and decide whether the difference in quality between the two images justifies spendinging hundreds of dollars on a Blu-Ray player and (often) $20+ more for every movie you buy.
People's opinions will change when they only "have to" spend $50 for a Blu-Ray player and can pick up movies in the Bargain Bin for $5 to $10

Futurama looks awesome in HD! As do all of the live action shows, of course. The difference is enormous.

Blu-ray allows for much better color depth, which is why the top image doesn't look as washed out as the bottom image.
Blu-ray doesn't just provide a higher pixel count. :P
