I've always been pretty annoyed at the massive focus on the words "casual" and "hardcore" this gen, but I really got fed up of it after reading the "Am I the only one who doesn't want NSMBW?"-thread. Let's face it people, nobody even knows what casual or hardcore even mean, because everyone has their own ridiculous definition of it that they can throw into discussions and if anyone disputes them they can just go "Hey, it's my opinion" or "Yeah but you're wrong" and leave it at that. These words are stupid and they haven't nearly been as widely spewed out as this gen, and I can't help but feel it's all coming from either Sony/MS-fans who are pissed that Nintendo are in the lead, or disgruntled Nintendo-fans who think Nintendo have changed or something.
But honestly I don't care where it comes from. I just want it to stop, because these words have no proper meaning and whenever someone brings on of them up you can count on 200+ posts about absolutely nothing regarding the subject. So from now on, I'm throwing these words away. The words "casual" and "hardcore", within gaming context, do not exist to me anymore.
Would anyone like to join me?
