I agree, Naruto is "meh" as far as animes go in both dub and sub category. The anime I like, even though it has an absolutely horrible rep in America thanks to 4kids mutilating it, is One Piece. Now that one has recently (the last 3 weeks) been dub'd by FUNimation instead of 4kids, and the dub has been much better. Still, the jokes just don't translate to English very well and the show feels like a kids show here.

That show is a full 200 episodes behind Japan. It's one of the longest running anime and manga series of all time (Kochikame is the longest. It's been in print for 31 years) and it's the fastest selling Manga in history with some of the best ratings of any TV program in Japan for the anime. I guess my tastes tend to lean more towards the Japanese market in both video games and anime.

Most mainstream anime sucks.  Harsh reality there.  Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, and .hack//sign (arguable) were rare exceptions.

As for length, Naruto isn't that big.  When it can approach Doraemon TV 2 (617 episodes) and Detective Conan (490 episodes), neither of which includes all the movies and other various spinoffs, let me know.  ^_~

Detective Conan forgot it had a plot though. That's a problem.

If you haven't watched One Piece I suggest you do. It has a refreshingly unique style, great orchestrated music, lots of great comedy, and decent action without the WAY overused anime DEM. The only problem with it is it's plot is obviously cyclical and follows it's own formula pretty much the entire time. It's gotten better about bending this in recent arcs though.

Detective Conan is just plain fun, but like I said it really needs to do a better job of remembering that there was once a plotline there. Other than that it's great. Did you ever watched Hayate no Gotoku? That's a great unique, funny, anime too.

I do find that I like some mainstream (if by mainstream you mean released in America) animes, but usually only in subtitle form. Still, you said you don't like mainstream anime, but your #1 pick on the anime topic is Zoids: Chaotic Century which is about as mainstream as they can get. It ran on Cartoon Network for years and sold lots of toys. I agree it was good, but again better as a sub.

I watch an odd variety of animes. Currently I've been watching Noir, which was obviously written by someone on acid, and Hayate no Gotoku, which is just awesome. I'm hoping the new Gundam 00 gets the taste of crap out of my mouth that Seed and Seed Destiny left in there too.

I've seen One Piece though only the mutilated 4kids version. No interest in it really.

Never seen Combat Butler actually. Looks so-so. I may check it out if you're recommending it though.

You read my post in that thread... Zoids is... well... awesome.  Not sure why but I loved that series.

Noir is awesome as well. The soundtracks are brilliant--Canta Per Me and Salva Nos are great songs.

If you're recommending Hayate, I'll recommend Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. Gotta keep it diverse. ^_~

Sure, I'll give it a shot. Hayate no Gotoku is all comedy though so don't go in expecting any sort of deep plot. It has a lot of references to other animes. For example, there is a bust of Conan in the mansion in the 2nd episode. It's the anime fan's anime. I love the humor in it though, and it's great at making fun of itself. The combat is good too, but it's the comedy that keeps me coming back.

The idea of knocking people out of a tower is pretty cool. It looks like a natural way to filter out lower-skilled opponents without using Out-Of-World win/loss records.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

Mmm okay, I'll be holding it up to Fumoffu comedy standards though. ^_^

Believe It

"Hi everyone, my name is Masao Kobayashi, and I am a license coordinator at Ubisoft working on Naruto: Rise of a Ninja. My role is to manage the interaction with Japanese licensor and submitting game assets. I grew up in Japan so manga and anime have always been a big part of my life. It’s really a dream come true for me to be working with Shueisha and Studio Pierrot since I grew up reading and watching titles they made like Dragon Ball, Slam Dunk, Yuyu Hakusho, etc.

As a license coordinator my responsibility varies from day to day. One day I could be working with character modelers to get every character just right or I could be flying to Japan to meet with our licensor. I really enjoyed working on this project because I hardly ever did the same thing two days in a row. In the end I really have to say I have a pretty sweet job. I get to fly around the world, work on a video game and hang out with the creators of Naruto. People sometimes ask how I got my job, so here’s my story: I was offered the job when I was working as a translator at Ubisoft in San Francisco. They were looking for someone who knew Japanese and English and knew a lot about video games and anime. In short, I got the job because I was a huge nerd who knew how to translate. So all of you guys out there that think you can’t work in video games because you’re not an artist or a programmer don’t give up hope. There all kinds of different job in video games.

Working with Shueisha and Studio Pierrot has been a very interesting experience. They are rather known to be one of the strictest licensors out there so I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. As we expected it was not an easy ride. Some character models had to be submitted and revised 5 times, and some story boards had to redone quite a few times. But now that it’s all over I really think that their strictness had a very positive impact on the game. Our character models looked pretty good to start with but after the revisions they look exactly like the anime. They really help us in pushing the quality and authenticity of the game to the next level.

I really want everyone to know that this game was really a labor of love. The majority of us on the team are huge Naruto fans and we wanted to create best Naruto game we possibly could. We really loved making this game and I hope you guys can enjoy it as well. "

One thing impress me : the number of ppl having an idea about Naruto simply based on the shitty anime (pretty much as all anime based on manga which all kill the rythm/pace of the original story).
Guys, try to actually READ Naruto, you might find it more far more interesting. However, I don't know if the Us version is censored. Here in France, by chance, it's not...

My cousin is going to go Bonkers for this game. He watches Naruto Shippuuden, and still watches the Funimation episodes on Cartoon Network. I'm not really a big fan of the series as I think it is just average. The game does sound very true to the series so I may give it a try just to play him in it.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.
