You are wrong.....and you are right.

If you believe that MS or even Sony will not release a new console for 7 years... you are wrong.

Of course support will continue... you are right.

well 1st off we dont know who is right as i cant read the future and neither can you. Second i said they do not need to UPDATE their systems because nintendo will never beat them in specs. So in 4 years we can see a 360 plus. but we will not see a true next gen system for a while. the excat time i dont no but each new system will be a "plus" like the Gamecube to the wii.

Why would it just be a minor upgrade? No way in hell MS or Sony are going to wait 6-8 years after their last console and release just a minor upgrade. The graphic technology will have jumped to greatly by then to just release a minor update.

Because of money? Both M$ and Sony now understand this is not a arms race for power anymore (which have driven up the cost of ps3 and xbox and its games a LOT more then the wii and its games but has sold a HELL of a lot less) but its a race for casuals, creativity and innovation. (which does not HAVE to cost lots of money like the Wii and the DS... if you think a company is not going to copy the trend that single handly made nintendo a bigger name then sony for the first time ever then i have to say ima agree to disagree.)

So either spend bilions on the next hardware upgrade and have the cost to make a game sky rocket (again) or go as cheap as possible and make billions on a good, fun, cheap product (Wii). i think i can guess what a business wants to do... and thats make money not spend it.

Thats all my opinion for all we know the ps3 could die and go the way of dreamcast and then they HAVE to make a new system in 2 years. (just an example ima hardcore sony fan i know this will not happen). We can not tell whats going to happen in 4-5 years but all we can do is guess based on facts that are happening today. So this is what i see down the road.

@carl

really?

another Ps3 slim.....why would they do that?

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I want the PS3 to survive long enough for us to get a multiplayer R&C

@Kantor

If you have a 60GB launch PS3, a R&C game with that same feature is probably available at your local game store for $20

It better hurry the hell up because right now its massively behind the PS2. The PS3 is running at around 2/3rds cumulative from launch sales of the PS2 right now.

1) I don't have a 60GB launch PS3

2) I don't live in America, and you should know this by now.

3) I already own a PS2 with TWO games with those multiplayer features.

4) I want a game with multiplayer features used OVER PSN. It should be a lot easier with the online system already there, so there's no excuse. If Naughty Dog with 90 people can make a top-class single player campaign AND co-op and competitive multiplayer, why can't Insomniac do the same with 200 people? It's all thanks to that damned Resistance franchise. I hope Resistance 2 taught them a lesson- stick to what you're good at.

It's not just SOny and MS its also EA, Activision, SE, Capcom... ect ect. I don't see any of these companys ready to rush out making top notch graphics on the next gen.

10 year life cycle seems very likely to me (maybe with a PS3 3.5 down the road). Beating PS2's lifecycle, maybe so but depends on how long the PS2 is going to be on the market and how the market develops from there on (especially regions of less influence at this point).

Well, us, who are not you, seem to find it very unlikely.

I'd like to track down the Fantasy World you live in so I can have my dreams come true as well.
