Yes , LO alone is worth it. but with halo and gears (if you like that type) then you should bought it ages ago.

Personally I'm thinking about 360 too... I'd like to play games you've listed and also some upcoming stuff like Alan Wake etc.

I'm not going to pay for gold live so probably an Arcade is the best option for me. You still get access to all games and $199 is a bargain for the machine.

Nah... I want the box only for games /mostly single player/. No online.

Although adding a hard drive to an arcade can get expensive, at least you have the option of doing so later on.  I think the arcade works well in the scenario you described.

So what is the purpose of this thread other than to say, "Hey, I wan't a 360 but which one should I get."

The PS3 part is pointless, other than to stir up some fans here.  Myself included I guess from this post.
