Forums - Sony - Quantic Dream: We can better Heavy Rain's visuals.....say WHAT?!!!

It would take more time to develop and more money to invest... not worth it.

The graphics are already amazing at this point o.o

agreed, a lot of people dont understand that

Not really, if the engine is already made, making improvements would probably be less expensive.

How long is it going to take though?

Kudos, I rarely read IMO insightful perspectives like these on here.

Yes, likely like with Uncharted 1 looking amazing and Uncharted 2 being even more amazing, you have to be very unwilling to stop progress when there's still a lot of headroom to tap into. Like there's still a lot of headroom for Killzone 3 to improve its gaming engine according to the developers. It will be done.

The initial game engine design from scratch nowadays costs the most time and engergy for a modern game. After that you can introduce stepping stone enhancements with new game releases.

Game design and assets development take a lot of time anyhow, what should your kickass programmers do meanwhile? Why not allow them improve things further or you might as well fire them...

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

@ cgi, the script for this game is gigantic, they will have to create another huge universe bla bla bla, you know what I mean, KZ 3 is just another shooter, they don't need to spend so much time on story

Yes, but it wouldn't take as long to develop as HEAVY RAIN has. The majority of HEAVY RAIN development time was building the engine...

They have been working on this for about 4 or so years, I would not bet on getting another one until late 2012

As long as it doesn't add to much to the development time, I'm all for their next game looking better. Hope they just reuse and improve on this engine, like Naughty Dog does.

4 ≈ One

I say they'll have another game out a year later if it is successful. Just my perspective. It doesnt take a year to write a game like heavy rain. And they can develop the engine at the very same time. A lot of people are failing to fully understand the position these first/2nd party PS3 developers are going to be in. All of the games have been at least moderately successful, with built engines development costs are going to drop MASSIVELY and you're going to see more games because sony always promotes creativity and new games. When was the last time you heard sony cancel a game that was in development?

From every sony dev I can remember reading about or speaking with in person like david jaffe, it's really a wonderful experience. I bet we're going to see truck loads of 1st/2nd party content in the coming years with each studio working together with their own proprietary engines.

Quantic Dream has a 3 game contract and you can bet your asses they'll be ramping up their work with the engine out of the way.
