I'm suprised how many people in this thread have said that the series went down hill from FFVII onwards. FFVII is one of my all time favourite games but I suppose the fact that it was my first FF plays a big part in that. I loved XIII, IX and X too (XII was ok). It's a shame I missed out on playing IV to VI when they were first released and that's made even worse by the fact that my PS1 copy of VI is borderline unplayable due to loading times .

It's funny you say that, because I find it surprising how many like some of the later games (especially 10). My guess is that most of those people started with 7 or later.

There are some games that I just can't fathom how people don't like them.  FF X is one of those games.  It's just absolutely unbelievable to me.

Don't get me wrong, I still like the game. It was the first and only Final Fantasy game that I stopped playing part way through. A few months later I startedfrom the beginning and finally beat it. There were a few points that bothered me about it. I thought they did a poor job with the voice acting, especially with Tidus, the most important character. I think the voice acting led me not to care about the characters that much. I also felt like there were too many small cut scenes. It was more like I was watching a game being played than actively participating in its outcome. And while I loved the slick interface for combat, it got tedious that characters not participating in battle didn't receive experience, which meant I needed to make the chaacters jump in and fight and then move them out to keep everyone at the same level. The combat was also monotonous in that each enemy had a single character who was its weakness (ie. Wakka and flying creatures, small beasts and Tidus, etc.).

There is a lot to love about Final Fantasy 10, but these few points led me not to enjoy it as much as some of the others. But obviously we all have our own valid opinions!

Around the Network

This thread inspired me to replay the game, and I can't stress how well this game has aged. It wipes the floor with almost every RPG released today. It is the peak of what RPG's should aim for. It is beyond amazing imo. It seems that after a while I forget why I love it, and I shall replay it every few months so that doesn't happen. I can't wait for a remake. I'm afraid that dubs(both english and japanese) might take away some of the charm the game has though. Hopefully it is done exactly the way I imagined the voices to be. (:

I agree, I just finished it this morning. So many amazing characters and such a great combat/magic system. I love how every charcaters has a distinct comabt style that not only matches their class but their character. Not like some of the later editions.

I had finished replaying it a few months back (Jan or Feb), and it really has fantastic characters.  Although with lots of prior knowledge of the game (cursed shield), the final Kefka battle was easier than I remember.  Even after my 4th or 5th playthrough, it was the first time I ever saw all of Shadow's backstory.
