Forums - Sony - Why are some hyping Demon Soul like it is a game changer?

Really Outlaw? You don't think Demon's Souls will do more than 150k in America, even though it already has 50k in preorders alone?

Well, you have a very high incentive to pre-order the game and I expect it to have terrible legs as most Atlus RPGs. I know I'm kinda lowballing, but I don't see it being too successful because of how niche it is.

Thinking more about it, 200-250k could also happen pretty easily. I think the western reviews could pretty easily help out the sales of the title in the West.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Well, I personally don't hype the game, and honestly, I thought it was just be a pile of rubble and a quick cash-in from From Software like Ninja Blade for the 360. They were both announced around the same time, so I figured they'd both just be crap, and with Ninja Blade's scores, I thought Demon's Souls would follow suit. But, then Demon's Souls got its' reviews...and that changed the picture

Any game that gets a 9/10 from Eurogamer and an 84/100 from RPGFan deserves attention,

that and every person who has played it on VGChartz loves it.

I don't know who called it a game changer.

The game is doing some new things gameplay wise for action RPGs/hack n slash RPGs.

Anyways.... although I'm buying it I will say this.
Demon's Soul will be lucky to sell 80,000 copies in the USA.

Also people are always hyping up exclusives especially this gen.
Last year 360 fan boys were going on about getting Operation Darkness,Spectral Force 3.and Zoids Assault and laughing at PS3's RPGs like they got the 3 most amazing RPG type games in the history of games.

PS3 fan boys earlier this year were acting like they received the same with Cross Edge acting like they were going to get the RPG to end all RPGs.

I'm sorry, do you have links to these claims? I don't recall fans of EITHER community hyping the games you mentioned the way you claim. I think people need to stop with all this: "X console owners claimed that y game is a game changer". Frankly, it sounds like BS...

I don't have links, but I personally rememeber having a little spat with a couple 360ers because I said Operation Darkness and Spectral Force 3 were likely going to suck and they wouldn't hear of it.

You've shown me the light. I will never again make a thread saying that I'm excited about a game. EVER.

You're right, 360 fans don't hype games. Forget about Halo 3, Gears of War, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Forza 3, *goes on ridiculously long list*.

The difference is that all those games you listed, except obviously Forza because it is not out yet, sold like hotcakes.  The shit PS3 fans change their avatars for/talk up constantly never sells impressively, never gets super high meta scores, etc.  It is hyped because it is a PS3 exclusive.  inFamous is easily the best example.

To be fair, I've never even played inFamous.  I don't hate on PS3 either.  As I type this I am waiting on mine to arrive from Amazon.  But for reasonable human beings without an all-consuming console preference, it gets extremely tiresome reading nonstop hype about games that will never amount to anything, ever.  PS3 fans on this site continually make the most illogical and retarded comments in favor of their console.  Then again, you should know that, since you're buying the PS3 version of Batman: AA because the console is black.

So if people want to be excited for a game it has to sell well?  That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.  I can't be happy because Demon's Souls is coming because it won't outsell Gears of War?  You say that 360 fans are more logical and that's why they only get excited for games that do well in sales.  How about this theory, 360 fans stick to games that are more commercially important because they don't know any better.  Couldn't that also explain the difference?

Maybe I didn't phrase myself well enough.  I see games hyped to death by PS3 fans on this board that sell nowhere near as well as multiplatform games on the same console that recieve relatively less hype.  It strikes me as a very odd coincidence that all of that enthusiasm is saved for console exclusives, especially when some of these people are clearly also buying the multiplats, and people in general are buying the multiplats far more.

The only reason to never talk about, say...  MW2 and only talk about Killzone (or Halo) is because playing up the one other people can't play makes fanboys feel superior.  Want a perfect example of why I can't stand this site's PS3 fanbase?  Look at Agent.  Here are the facts about agent:  it is made by Rockstar, it is PS3 exclusive.  Within 2 days of it being announced, there were at least 5, probably more like 8-10 people with Agent avatars.  About a game with nothing past a logo.  There is only ONE explanation for that, and that's, "Nah nah nah nah, 360 fans won't be able to play this game which may or may not be good once any substantive information about it is actually released!"  Look at the PS3 playtime stats for Modern Warfare or WAW vs. Killzone, and then look at the number of COD avatars on this site relative to Killzone.

Sorry for being so long winded, I just wanted to try to explain what I meant.  I'm not faulting PS3 fans for being excited about games that don't sell well, I am faulting them for their feigned overenthusiasm and illogical nonsense, which seemingly manifests itself only when a new exclusive is coming out.

I noticed that all the guys with Agent avatars are somewhat huge R*/GTA fans.

Also, I own KZ2 and CoD4. I've also played WaW. KZ2 is an awesome game and beats CoD in quite a few departments like the Clans and Squad system. Also you can host proper tournements in KZ2. Also the Class types add a nice touch. Also more customizable options when you're making a game. A PROPER GAME HOSTING SYSTEM. No annoying ass granders [martydom users].

Couple these with the fact that there's a VGChartz KZ2 Clan [since the game actually has proper clans]

There are just so many reason why people why PS3 owners would prefer KZ2 over CoD. Also answering why the would rather use KZ2 avatars and sigs as apposed to CoD...

Demon's Souls is the BEST RPG THIS YEAR. And it deserves the praise. Which game is going to challenge it? Alpha Protocol? we'll see! My money is on Demon's Souls, that game is great!

Yeah no kidding. Did you see the most recent poll? About 40% of the people voted "Watch out Wii, Sony's back" in response to what they think about the 299 slim....LOL.

Check them all out they're pretty funny...

how did you know those were voted by Sony fans?

sounds to me, "whath out Wii, Sony's back" is a bit sarcastic and more like a complement to Nintendo.
