Forums - Gaming - Help me pick some games!

Hi there fellow members!

I just (not one hour ago) bought myself a 46" HDTV and I'm getting a PS3 in september and a 360 Elite in october. I was wondering what you all consider to be the essential purchases for these two consoles. I know I'll be getting an extra gamepad for both and a G25 Racing Wheel as well as a Blu-ray remote and some other stuff but I haven't decided which games I want to get just yet. Bear in mind that I can't buy every single game right now, I'll get a few every month I guess.

Here are the games I've decided to get so far (remember, I have a gaming PC so I won't be needing recommendations on games that have a superior PC version):

PS3:

Killzone 2

Metal Gear Solid 4

Ratchet & Clank (both titles)

Uncharted 1 and 2

Little Big Planet

Street Fighter 4

DiRT and DiRT 2

The Darkness

360:

Resident Evil 5

Forza Motorsport 2

Fable II and III

Gears I and II

Alan Wake

GRID Race Driver

What else do you think I should get? I don't have all that much experience with HD games yet as I haven't got any of the consoles yet. I will also be getting a Wii once the price drops here as there are some games that are absolutely must have for me each gen so feel free to give me a few tips to that end as well!

PS3:
Gran Turismo 5
Valkyira Chronicles

360:
Forza 3

You must buy Mirror's Edge. Now you can look which version cost less at your local store. If the price is the same for both consoles, take a look at this site to help you decide which version you want:

There are tons of great games for both those consoles but a few of them which I would recommend are Infamous, Valkyria Chronicles and Halo. There is also Mass Effect and Bioshock if you haven't played them on PC already.

If you are not opposed to purchasing both installments, then you should purchase both Resistance 1 and 2. If you have to chose only one of them, I recommend R2. To be forthright, R2 is my favorite PS3 exclusive. It is a superb game. Also, you should purchase Dead Space. It is another superb game.

I suggest you get The Darkness for the Xbox 360, it runs better on 360 as it was an early PS3 port.

I hear the Fanatec racing wheel is PC, 360, PS3 compatible. I think its a little more, but it may be better to get a compatible version. You may also want to grab Forza 3 instead as its a marked improvement over Forza 2.

I suggest you grab some of the cheaper Xbox 360 titles as well, Crackdown should be one of the first on that list as its quite a fun actiony sandbox game.

Gears of War 1 is also quite cheap and its really fun. I played it thinking it would suck and it was a very pleasant surprise.

Tease.

Don't buy The Darkness, it's very old and i found i not fun to play, buy a psn card instead, psn got many good games :)

Resistance 1 is a very good game, Resistance 2 is the worst shooter you can buy on the PS3...

R2 is not the worst shooter available on the PS3. That infamous distinction belongs to Haze...
