Thanks.
Anyway, when I started out playing, I was struck by how low the resolution on the N64 really was - it was like there was Vaseline covering the screen, almost. For a minute I had considered downloading the Virtual Console version because I had heard it was made sharper, but I ended up deciding not to.
We're at the Fire Temple now, and I'm glad we stuck with the cart.
We own one of the 1.0 gold cartridges, so we still have the Arabic chanting and the red blood and the crescent moon. I know they're small things, but each of them - the chanting in particular - help enrich the overall experience of the game. I wish they had replaced the chanting with some nonsense noise that sounded basically the same in later versions instead of just cutting it out altogether.
It's amazing how these dungeons were designed. I am stunned all over again, every time we get to one of these places, at how seamless it all is. The graphics have aged, but the game itself really is essentially timeless.
Also, now I know why my wife isn't good at maths: she used up too much space memorizing the location of every Gold Skulltula and Heart Piece. The woman is spooky.
