Forums - Sony - Why is PS3 Slim so expensive in my country?

Before the price drop the PS3 80Gb cost typically 3990-4290 crowns here in Sweden. 1 crown = 0.099 Euro and 1 Euro=10.1 crowns, so price here of PS3 80GB has been €399-429 Euro including VAT for a long time.

You would think a €399 to €299 price drop would cut 25% off of those 3990-4290 and decrease it to 2990-3199 Crowns = €299-319, which means at least €100 drop in price.

But no, the PS3 Slim typically costs €379 Euro (3790 crowns) here in the big electronic retail chains and in stores such as Game (=GameStop), which as you can see is only a measly €20-50 price drop!

I'm pissed off. Is it the same in the rest of Europe?

EDIT: apparently the reason is that Sony has given the exclusive distributor of Playstation in Scandinavia, Nordisk Film, rights to add up to €50 to the price of PS3's in the whole Scandinavian market (and has been for many years, why PS consoles always cost more up here). But hopefully it's a temporary decision by the distributor to make money off of early adopters and later the price drop will be a full €100.

So in France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Portugal and Greece the Slim is already priced €299, yes?
(Eastern Europe is probably pricier like it always has been)

And FYI: 1 Dollar= 7 Swedish crowns, meaning the Slim costs $540 here including VAT (which becomes $430 if you'd exclude VAT).

Europe got a E100 drop, we Britons got screwed as well, our prices have essentially changed from £270 as a bundle to £250 RRP standalone.

Because Nordisk film sucks, Ica has the phat for 2999kr.

Expect bundles to reappear as they 80GB goes out of stock. They realise that there is little reason to get the slim over the phat, and so they want to clear their 80GB stocks before they start doing bundles of the slim. It makes sense to clear their inventory of the 80GBs, it is easier to just have one SKU, and of course, the slim takes up less room on the shelf

The bundles probably won't come for a few months, though. And, depending on how successful the slim is, they might not even start coming until post-Christmas.

However, I do fully expect to see a PS3 for £225 with one game, or two older games, in most stores by March.

I doubt it's only €299 in either Finland or Denmark. All Scandinavia are expensive countries usually adding price compared to continental Europe (due to VAT or currency I dunno).

Does Denmark have the Euro btw? I forgot.

Too bad that it has here suggested retail price of 359€ because Nordisk film screwed us once again. Though I think most of the retailers will sell it under that price like before price drop. (suggested retail price for fat model was 479€ but some retailers sold it as cheap as 329€)

@ haxxiy

and of course I blame the social democrats.  I want the Euro asap.
