Why? Because I don't want the future of video games to be Wii-like.

Natal and PS3 Motion Controls say hi.

Expect a lot of "Wii-like" games starting next year. Once the devs and publishers see that they can put out quick, easy games and cash in, you'll see less devotion to the core market. The only way that this won't happen is if the HD gamers don't embrace Natal or PS3 motion, and the devices flop.

BOLDED FOR TRUTH!!!!

...OP: I hate to say it but you're a bit late on not wanting Wii style fun back in games. This pass E3 pretty much set the wheels in "motion". (pun intended)

Also, if you take the horse blinders off for a minute you'll see with games like Mod Racers & Joyride, they are taking Nintendo's lead. If Natal & The PS3 Wand DON'T sell then you've dodged a bullet...bbbbuuUUUUuutttttttt if they sell well....

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

But I don't want the future of video-games to be that, I'm glad HD gaming is already winning. I was really afraid that every publisher looked at the Wii like the ONLY example to follow. We, the ones that buy HD games are proving that there's more to games than the Wii.

Profitability says hi!

HD gaming is losing billions of dollars every year, and if it would continue like this, both HD console companies would need to leave the industry after another few years. They didn't discontinue the current generation, because they still hope thatthhe winds might change, but on the long term, they have no reason to stay in an industry that constantly loses money for them.

Luckily, it won't continue like this. IT WILL BE MUCH WORSE! Hardcore gamers, by definition, require better graphics, more complex, more expensive games in every generation. But there won't be more of them. So yeah...

Considering that the audience for 360 and PS3 are pretty much the same, I'm glad that the Wii is being beated.

*Raises eyebrow, looks at big ol' 49% on the front page*

Well yes, the Wii is being "beated". And while Wii happens to be selling like hotcakes, great games are also coming (and are still coming) to the HD consoles, so I really don't think you have anything to be afriad of. Just keep on playing those games you know and love.

Kaz harai just said that Sony's gaming division is now making a profit that is why they cut the price,  so why would both HD consoles companies need to leave?

Why don't you include PC sales with "HD", it should make you feel much better.

Y'know what makes me happy? Aligning the console launches and seeing the Wii at 55%.

Y'know what else makes me happy? The balance board outselling the PS3.

lol so True!

I agree...

This is so funny and right.

They finally started making profit, so they cut the price again. It is very likely that the $299 Slim is losing money again, or at least doesn't bring significant profit.

Of course they wouldn't discontinue it right now, when they are so close to finally making some profit, but this generation will be ultimately in the red, eliminating the profits earned in the PS2 generation.

And if, let's say, PS4 will also start with PS3-like numbers, while losing money, in it's first year, I can imagine Sony saying "Oh no, not this shit again!!!" and unplug the whole thing.
