Wow, congratulations Soleron just waiting for my GCSE's results next week. Also can I say do University look past your GCSE's or regraded with some value.

Should post mine results next week.

I think you need 5 A-C grades to go to Uni, including Maths and English, atleast thats what they told me when I applied.

Wow getting 5 A-C is pretty easy as most subjects offer some sort of double or triple award. Thanks SciFiBoy, that should be more then managable.

With me they had checked it, however I've never been good at English and I got a D for my GCSE (My worst grade as I recall). However, they said they just needed to check and they were not basing my qualification on GCSEs and so they let me on the course. I think if you get a D in either Maths or English they wont split hairs as long you get 5 A*-C's overall.

How did you get a D? Your writing skills are good and as long as you can make some relevant points, use quotes and back them up (which your VGC posts show you obviously can) then you should get at least a C.

I have no idea what results I have got yet. I can't collect them cos I'm away from London in North Carolina at the moment which is brilliant but I wish I could be with all my friends celebrating.

However my Ucas has been updated so I know that I have got into my animation course at Bristol which is great! I only needed three Cs for that though as the tough part was the interview and portfolio inspection.

Does anyone know a way of getting results online as its killing me knowing that everyone apart from me knows what theyv got.

given the amount of work i put in, easy isnt the word i would use for getting a C, though, i do have a learning disability.

you can redo Maths and English if you get a D i think or do GCSE equivalent things for them, like key skills level 2/3 or something.

Haha thanks I guess.

My grammer isn't the problem, neither is my reading and my ability to analyse text. I never knew what the problem was to be honest, I was just never good at English, I didn't enjoy it at school at all.

Mind you I'm not a very creative academic writer, my papers and reports always follow a very structured method with a very basic and understandable use of language and I think this is why I do well at science. I've spent four years (I changed course after my original first year) doing a BSc at university (I got a 2:1, yay) writing reports and I'm about to start my masters and then hopefully do a PhD, so my reports are usually very sound work. As you've said I do use referenced quotes and relevent points, but I do it a lot more at university because I come to this site to get away from thinking, I'm always on auto pilot here.

I guess the fact that I'm just a rigid writer and I didn't enjoy English at school just resulted in a poor grade.

-edit-

Mind you, I would love to go back and try a GCSE. At university you learn to work smart as opposed to work hard and I've picked up a lot of valuable experience and I think that now I could knock out an A* grade GCSE in a fortnight. My best mate is a teacher and when he tells us about his GCSE students complaining about hard work it's almost unbelievable because what they call hard work is nothing compared to third year at university.

I might apply for one online and see if I can do it. It would be constructive fun.

My AS results were fine, apart from randomly getting a C in a history paper, I got an A* equivalent in the other subjects, though I am not sure what some of my exams are out of. I'm probably applying for Physics at Oxford, so I got above 90 in all Maths, Further Maths and Physics papers

Are you doing extra-curricular reading for this? I'm reading a few (un-)popular science books to go on the personal statement and as interview material, and also the Feynman Lectures which are the best books I've ever read.

Yeah, I'm currently reading Quantum Physics: Reality or Illusion? by Alexander Ray, which is a really good introduction to quantum physics, I know I have a Feynmann book, but I am not sure which one. I might get those lectures once I finish the books I already have (I don't think the one I have is his Lectures), my physics teacher speaks very very highly of him and strongly we reccomend we read his books

For any Physicists definetly read as much Feynman as you can!

Lol at Kowenicki.
