Forums - Sony - Penny Arcade on the PS3 slim

Lol @ all these junk articles popping up left and right. These guys obviously just want hits on their websites. What better way than to jump on the slim hatewagon since it's the newest thing in the gaming news. Hate always brings more hits than praise.

To be fair Penny Aracde don't really need the hits, they have a fairly large and loyal fanbase. Its possibly actually just their opinions, or satire, or most likely of all an amusing hyperbole.

Off course it is just an amusing hyperbole.

Penny Arcade hates Fanboyism, they are just giving their opinions.

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

It's been quite obvious Microsoft has a lot of 'friends' in the media biz, Cnet, Forbes, and now this.  You can expect to hear all good things about windows 7 when it launches this fall, especially from Cnet (we have haven't we so far.)

When i loaded up Google news today,  The two stories representing the PS3 slim were one about how you should choose a blu-ray laptop over a ps3(HUH??), and another saying it was too little too late for sony.  None of the top stories actually gave a fair representation of what Sony presented or what the REAL NEWS STORY they were supposed to be covering was.  It was clear to me they had succeeded in dampening the excitement and media impact on the announcement.  For crying out loud Sony announced a $299 PS3 and a redesigned slim model, how is that a negative?

Nobody says it is negative. But if you consider the past success of the playsation brand, nobody would have imagined that they would need to create a slim version, so early,to try to catch up.

Inevitably, this is conflicting with other trends on the market (see also the fight between the PSP and the iPhone).

Nobody thought they'd have to make one? Didn't they make a slim PS1....and a slim PS2? And what, only fours years after launch of those consoles? Sony made a PS3 slim in 3 years after launch.

That speaks volumes about their cost reduction methods, and shouldn't in any way be spun into a negative

Yep. I'm really impressed! A 70% cost reduction is just huge.

It's funny, because I fully expected a $100 price cut. But seeing it actually happen is still kind of unreal to me.

@Badgenome
I'm still shocked to be honest.
$100 price cut brings it oh so close to the PSP Go price that I thought $50 was the best I could hope for.
Every day is a school day it seems.

Proud Sony Rear Admiral

These are obviously paid hacks working for Microsoft. This is really old, even in the Xbox days their were countless articles touting the Xbox as a superior machine blah blah even when reality on the ground was completely different.

whats with all the hate on ps3 slim?

Its a PlayStation console?

Anyway, let them hate on it... i know that soon enough i will be buying a second PS3, and for good reason.

Over 100 Million consoles have been sold so far this generation representing roughly 60% of the console sales that were achieved last generation and it is pretty safe to say that we're close to (or have passed) the point where half of all consoles sold this generation will have been sold. Being that 80% of consoles sold last generation cost $200 or less, and the PS3 lacks the exclusive content or popularity of the PS2 to drive sales at $300, I think it is fair to say that reporters and analysts have overstated the impact that the slim will have.

that's not really fair to penny arcade.  they have a pretty loyal fanbase (including myself).  all they do is write their opinions good or bad but honest and delivered in a humorous way.  yes, they are pretty open about their preference for the 360 but they still approach all nintendo/sony products openly and honestly.  i have a huge amount of respect for them because of that,...when everyone "news" site is blinded by hype they come through with a truely honest assesment.
