Now that I think about it, you might have a point about the DSi's release not meaning much, but the DS's sales are far too high for Nintendo to even think about releasing another handheld.

Nintendo recently said they'd been working on a completely new handheld system-but scrapped it because DS sales are still so high.
As for the DS/Micro situation, DS was released as Nintendo's 'third pillar' alongside GBA and GC. Once DS became so successful, the whole third pillar thing was dropped and DS supplanted GameBoy as Nintendo's handheld line. Nintendo admitted that without the success of the DS, they would have had to completely rethink the Wii.

You're right, your prediction is bold, but it seems bold to the point of stupid. I'd say a new handheld would be announced 2011 at the earliest. As for the increased competiton from PSP Go-check out Nintendo's last financial briefing to see who they think the real handheld competition is.
Hint: Sony aren't mentioned.
