I think MS is experimenting with the Fable 2 episodic adventure. I think it's cool that the first episode is free, but I'm not exactly sure what makes this different from DLC.

Looks like MS is going to be offering some full games in separate chunks. Not sure what the purpose of this will be.
eventually it will be a way for them to charge more money for a product.
I'm not very fond of it to be honest. Regular expansions are better imo.
I also feel that the episodic focus is stalling the progress on sequels somewhat.
I enjoy it for the most part, depending on what game it is. Half-Life 2 and GTA IV are how Episodic gaming is done right. Those are basically full blown standalone games.
I think most DLC is ripping gamres off, so guess what I think of episodic games :D
I LOVE ICELAND!

I think it is pretty cool for some games. Think about it.
You play a new game that comes in 3 episodes. You think it looks cool, you download it and after 2 hours you notice that this is not the kind of game you like. Now you do not need to download the next episodes and you can save a lot of money. You just paid 1/3 of the full price.
Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

But this is also where Valve's only (imo) weakness is revealed for all to see; they take too damn long making their games. The episodes are way too far inbetween and I'd rather they put more effort into their new engine and Half-Life 3! That said; Episode 3 will most assuredly be the best thing in FPS gaming ever!
Just give it here already!
| RolStoppable said: It's just another way of ripping of gamers. Wouldn't FF IV: The After Years also fall into the category of episodic gaming? A game seperated into pieces, but if you add up the costs, it's just as much or more as a full retail game. EDIT: Sorry, didn't notice at first that this is in Microsoft Discussion. But still, I think that episodic gaming will be just as much abused by publishers as regular DLC. |
What are you doing here Rol? ![]()
Takes time for quality. They always take their time with Half-Life cause it's the crown jewel of their IPs.
