The OP is right on. The X360 broke $300 a while ago, and it didn't do it that much good. Expect the PS3 to get up to X360 levels or slightly better (obviously it will be a lot higher for the first couple weeks) but the Wii will easily continue to crush both of them due to having already captured the worlds interest while the PS3 and X360 are fighting to gain mainstream recognition.
This isn't bad for the console in any way, but there is no magical savior for finally hitting $300. We can throw price stats all over the place, but they really don't mean all that much. I mean, the PS2 sold 100% of its consoles at or below $300. How come both Wii and X360 haven't broken 138m yet?
Essentially, Sony was too little too late the minute they launched the thing at $600 and told us we needed two jobs to afford the thing.

EAget more money from PS3 than Xbox. Anyway, the PS3 managed to stay ahead of the 360 while it was more expensive until the 360 got the price cut. It will do well, and I think will stay ahead of the 360 until that gets a price cut, especially with XIII and GT5 pushing hardware sales

XD!!!! This is perfect, I was just over in a thread where it was proven that the 360 costs MORE that the PS3 when all is said and done. so the CHEAPER PS3 managed to stay ahead of the MORE EXPENSIVE 360 for a short while....kinda sad isn't it?

Cost of entry, even with the arcade, if you try and make them have similar specs in terms of HDD space and wifi and online multiplayer, the 360 is more expensive, and for me more annoying in that way, but consumers see the advert for the 360 at $199, and they get it in their mind that they want an Xbox, so they commit to getting one, and then they see the hidden costs later
@Munkeh111
So 9/10 Informed Shoppers Prefer PlayStation?
That would be an awesome add
btw, I do agree with your post

Proud Sony Rear Admiral
lol. It'll sell more especially in Japan...that's all I can say is certain. However, I don't think it's possible for the ps3 to ever catch the 360 in NA. Perhaps it's a possibility in the EU

I refuse to believe that consumers don't look at the cost of paraphenilia when looking at buying a gaming system. Some may, but suspect they are a minority. I suspect they see the cost...and then they see the games and features that the 360 has over the PS3, and the fact statistically, more of their friends will have 360s than PS3s.

Queue "The Price is Right" yodling tune. The bar is being adjusted again. Jeez >_>

The facts remain that most consoles sell a large number of their units in the 200-300$ price range. 400$ is out of that range, yet has outsold the 360 in the same amount of time on the market. if ~27M consoles is not a majority of their sales, then we can imagine at least another 28M sold a this price if not more. |
The guy can post his opinion.
I think 300.00 is still to much money for a lot of people. Plus the games are 60 bucks.
I think it will raise sales a little but not enough to catch XBox 360
