yeah, the 60gb version is a much better offer, but i also think people don't know about the 40Gb version, i've seen no advertisement for it at all, and if you put ps3 into the amazon search box, you don't even get the 40gb on the first two pages.

I think it has more to do with 2 games which come with 60Gb version. I don't care about BC at all but I possibly would chose 60 gb anyway. Motorstorm + Resistance are worth to pay for them 50 pounds/100 euro. Plus you got a bigger hadr drive, more usb and card reader.
So if you think that this sales mean that BC is really important and Sony made mistake - think again becouse this sales doesn't prove anything.

Has there been much advertising about the new price points? Personally I haven't seen any so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people didn't know.

I think as many posters have pointed out that the more telling statistic will be the 60GB sales. I really think it is a fear tactic on the part of Sony, and quite frankly I think if we do not see a spike in the sales of the 60GB then it could be a sign of two things. Either consumers are no longer impressed by the brand period. The consumers are not impressed with the implied threats by Sony. The 40GB is just so incredibly neutered in comparison.

You really shouldn't have.

It's obvious that the 40 GB model won't sell well for a while (see sig). It just can't compete with the value of the starter pack (2 games, 1 extra controller, + 20 GB, PS2 BC, card readers, more USB ports for 100 additional €).

This is of course not a sure thing, but I'd say most people don't know about the threats in the first place, and most of the ones which do don't know about what Sony did in USA... So yeah, there will be a small group of people who will feel threatened, but not that big I'd say. Although store clerks should know about it and could spread the word.

PS3 sales didn't even decrease last week with all the rumours and the announcement of the upcoming price cut, I don't think people are well informed enough for that!

I'll almost bet that this means its either not available on Amazon, or people don't know about it yet.

It should be in the top#100 - especially if the 60gig is #2.

(you would expect it to do at LEAST 10% the numbers of the 60gig model??)
