Forums - Nintendo - Does Nintendo get in on the action soon?

We don't know yet.

I still think they will cut prices around October. If they don't figure out a way to return the Wii to momentum with Wii Sports Resort that is. I don't really believe they will actually.

Of course this has nothing to do with competition, as much as we like to think it does. But Nintendo got off track when they released Animal Crossing and Wii Music. They misread customers, and they brought out an experience that wasn't optimal. This stopped the Wii momentum, along with the lack of progress and integration with their controller input at that season.

When momentum stops, it is VERY difficult to get it rolling again. And Nintendo absolutely knows this, they will try hard but Iwata, having the experience he does, I'm sure is already expecting it not to work. Because they have the obligation to, they have to legitimately try. And they will do whatever they can, but they won't compromise too much. They will promote, bundle and then price drop.

After that they'll set in motion a brand new strategy of blue oceans, which is already being cooked up.

People do seem to forget that even though the Wii sales have been down lately, it still is handedly outselling it's competitors.

Nintendo is a poor company that can't afford price cuts.

/sarcasm off

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Remember, color changes come first.

Price drop happens the day competitor's motion controls are released.

I'm referring to NA/Europe of course, no idea about Nintendo Japan's strategy.

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)
PC: 10^9
Wii: 10^8

You may have something there, but if they wait that long, I think it may be a $100.00 price cut.

Nintendo will go with new colors and a value-added change to its bundle before resorting to a price cut.

Yeah. The black Wii is already out in Japan.

I really want the black Wii.

I hope Nintendo doesn't drop the price of the wii.
When the Wii is outselling the PS3 slim by a wide margin at only 50$ cheaper, the Sony Fanboys will explode. It'll be hilarious.

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

It would be far more accurate to say "price drop happens the day competitors' compelling software that utilizes motion controls are released"--coming out with motion controls, as little more than a 'me too' gesture, will have little-to-no-effect on Wii and that, I wager, is what keeps the execs at Sony and MS up at night. (For example, coming out with 'MS HD Sports' or 'Sony Motion Control Olympics' isn't going to get the job done but I'd bet staggering sums of money that that is about as creative as the execs at both Sony and MS will be: "we'll just clone Wii Sports and throw in HD graphics and we'll win!!")
