Nintendo is pretty confident that a lack of software is their problem. What exactly does a price cut do, let the buyer keep more money on hand so he/she can spend it on games they don't want?

If gamers liked the games the Wii already has, then they would've bought one by now; if they don't, they're not going to buy a Wii when Nintendo cuts the price.

But these guidelines dont apply to the ps3?

The PS3 is in direct competition with the 360, since the two consoles are pretty similar in power, and have mostly the same games; gamers interested in one, would likely be interested in the other.  When Microsoft cut the price of the 360 last year, and Sony didn't, the 360 started stealing away the fans who felt the extra $100 savings overrode any potential benefit the PS3 offered.  Lowering the price of the PS3 will help Sony, as it will convince people now considering the 360 to buy a PS3 instead.

Nintendo is unaffected because the Wii is so different, people interested in it don't care about the HD consoles, and people interested in an HD console don't care about the Wii; or if they did care, then they're going to buy both.

Nintendo should continue to do what they do. Make great games

People will continue buying the Wii.

I think it will come after the holidays.

I agree with what most people are saying. Nintendo doesn;t need to cut its price to keep selling. The next few weeks will tell us how much of a threat Sony is to Nintendo, but I don't see Nintendo dropping the price of the Wii anytime soon. It's still sold out of most stores, so dropping the price wouldn't make any sense.

Nintendo will go with new colors and a value-added change to its bundle before resorting to a price cut.

I agree.

Also, Nintendo isn't going to make these decisions based on how well the competition is selling and how big Wii's marketshare is. I don't think they see the market in those terms. They base their decisions on their own profit and how well their products are performing based on their own projections and expectations. I think they'll let MS and Sony earn whatever marketshare they can as long as the Wii meets Nintendo's projections.

I think it will depend on the success of PS3 slim in Japan.

If it does to PS3 what it did to PSP in Japan, Nintendo will probably drop the price.

I find it amazing how Sony has cut $300 off their price.

Microsoft $200.

And nintendo is still selling at the same price.

Unlikely, Mario is going to keep the momentum high, unlike Wii Music and Animal Crossing.

So what, like late 2010?

Ninty is unbeatable, and the price != Wii's selling point.
The only thing they may think is how to please us, gamers, even more xD

Here in Norway the Wii is now more expensive than both the PS3 and the 360 Elite. To me, that is not very good value for money and I'm hoping the price will go down soon, I'm not willing to pay quite that much for a Wii to be honest.

I think there has always been this idea whether its the gaming media or gaming forums or gaming analysts, that the only barrier keeping PS3 from Wii sales was price, and the only thing giving Wii's its unprecedented sales was its price. So many folks clinged to this notion that if PS3 was Wii's price it would recieve Wii like sales. It won't happen.

Honestly until I see the results of this slim/price cut move, there is just as much a possibility of the price cut having the Gamecube effect as it is that it will boost PS3 into the stratusphere.

Nintendo will maintain Wii's price as long as possible. Iwata believes that software is the driving force of Wii's momentum, not price.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
