Forums - Sony Discussion - Some Blu-ray statistics. "It's popular, not getting cheaper"

I''ll just take some parts out of the article.

BLU-RAY is being adopted faster than DVD was, but there won't be a fall in the price of discs any time soon. Sony representative Tim Harris said it would take some time for new release Blu-ray movies to drop in price.

More than 50 million Blu-ray players had been sold around the world in the last 3 years, according to the company's figures. Sony's Paul Colley said that number included PlayStation 3 sales. "The PS3 was specifically positioned as a Blu-ray player to get Blu-ray into people’s homes," he said.

According to the Digital Entertainment Group, sales of Blu-ray discs in the US and Canada grew more than 100 per cent to 20 million in the first quarter of 2009.

Yeah, right now it just isn't worth it. Blu Ray just isn't the leap over DVD that DVD was over VHS.

Where do you live? I have not seen a 50$ release (unless a special edition/box set) ever for Blu-rays. I believe the first ones had around a 35$ price tag. If you go to amazon.com most of the new Blu-rays release for 22-30$ new. You're getting screwed man.
