So... General public = you? Since most of those games are actually considered good by the general public.

It's a great game for the hardcore grinder gamer. It plays like a MMO without the extra stuff. It also plays like a RPG with no almost no story and no leveling. How can that be? All of the upgraded stats come from upgraded EQ. The better EQ is obtained by killing monsters and harvesting hides, pelts, teeth, etc. to make better armor, swords, shields. The fights with the monsters are very similar to raids in an MMO. The battles can take 20-30 minutes of moving around, battling, tracking, recovering HP, and then doing it again until you've defeated the monster (or died three times). At the higher levels you need to team up with a partner to take down the monsters, preferably via local wireless but also possible via online play (and some extra hardware for your computer). If you like soloing in an MMO then you should give this a try. Also, a word of warning, this is considered a tough game.
| GooseGaws said: Hey, don't hate on Mario. The level of quality in Mario games is generally very high, and just because they are "non-violent" makes them no less excellent. Hate on terrible licensed software, like Chicken Little, Surf's Up, Ratatouille, etc. Hate on it HARD. |
Main Mario series and RPG, yes. Mario Party, Mario Strikers and all this other crappy spin offs, no.
| Gnizmo said: My opinion seems to be on par with that of many reviewers, your opinion though seems to be the real terrible measure. So the only measure of a games quality is based on reviewers? Then you have set an impossible task. With your definitions in place there is no game that can get mediocre reviews and be anything other than mediocre. You either need to redefine how a games quality is measured, or redefine the original challenge. Anything else is little more than justifying bashing a popular game because it went to a system you don't like. Soccer mom buy games for their kids all the time, do you think they have a clue how good the game is? They see and recognize Mario and know that will be good and violent free for Little Johny to play. You clearly know way different soccer moms than I do. They buy games cause their kids won't shut-up about them, and because their friends kids really seem to enjoy it. They don't just go into a store and pick a game randomly off the shelf all together and then decide it works. If Mario being on the front were enough to sell games, Mario's Time Machine would have very good sales numbers to back it. |
The only exceptions I saw from the lists given to me were BT1 and BT2.
Yes they do. I worked retail before at BB, soccer moms used to come by cheap crappy games for their kids all the time.

| MontanaHatchet said: No, I mean the series. Only now does he care about the series, despite it being great, because it's on a Nintendo system. I mean, I've pretty much always owned all the consoles, so I don't have a basis for comparison. Still, if say, the Mother series hit the Sony consoles, you'd likely see Sony fanboys rushing to find out what it is, despite it having been a great series the whole time. |

Great intelligent responce, heh. So then you are baseing it off of you, rather than general public. Because that's all you believe you can go on, that sales don't matter at all.
Edit: Developers are wasting their time then, trying to create games the public will find good. Since it doesn't matter at all. Sales are determined by pretty cases that soccor moms think look nice

@FilaBrasileiro:
Actually, most of the spinoffs are worthwhile also, save the yearly update of Mario Party. The Strikers and Golf games were good fun, the Tennis games are some of the best 4-player games of all-time, and the Mario Kart games are virtually all classics in one way or another. Baseball I haven't played, but heard was decent enough.

Hates Nomura. Tagged: GooseGaws - <--- Has better taste in games than you. |
really. Japan would be the only place that would have an impact.
You heard Soriku, where?
