Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's outside developer support...

It has been more bad prediction than bad relationships.

Nintendo has been much easier to work with this time around, according to reports I have seen.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

I certainly hope they would learn from the strong arm tactics they used to use.

Yes, To Nintendo, third party developers are also customers (they buy the SDK) so a good service towards developers is given when is asked

Well, they need to reach out to more devs.

I finally found the quote/article for which I searched:

What changed? The secretive company is coming out of its shell. It has made a concerted effort to woo other makers of game software as part of a broader change in strategy to dominate the newest generation of video game consoles. (NY Times, June 8, 2007)

They do reach them out, it's just that they are not agrresive like before. Nintendo invites them and gives them the advantages. It's up to developers to accept or deny. Nintendo does not put money, just gives an audience with huge potential

What happened between iD and Nintendo?

Nintendo wouldn't let ID put Super Mario Bros on computers.

In retrospect, that was an excellent idea, because now people have to pay 500 Wii points for it on the Virtual Console. It would've been heavily pirated as well. I can't really blame Nintendo for that.

However, during tat time, I don't see how they wouldn't let iD do that, but let Philips release horrible Zelda games on the CD-i.

After Nintendo ended the deal with Sony to develop the CD drive for their console, they worked with Philips to do the same.  As part of the deal, Philips was given character and licensing rights to the Zelda series as a form of payment.   I think the game results speak for why Nintendo never let them make the CD drive for them either.

Nintendo's relationship with 3rd parties as of right now is actually pretty damn good.   It's say it hasn't been this strong since the SNES days.

Those games were terrible. I didn't know that deal was the reason they were allowed to be made.

It was some licensing stuff that gave Phillips the legal rights. Nintendo couldn't really do anything to stop the games from being made, and as a result, the youtube poops were formed.

I don't think Nintendo feels too good about them.
