Poll Technica: will you buy a 360 or PS3 if the price drops?

It's looking like price drops on the 360 and PS3 hardware are coming in the next few weeks, but the big question remains: would a price drop cause you to finally get a current-generation system, or a PS3 or 360 to go along with your 360 or PS3? Now's the time to speak up

Let's gaze into our crystal ball for a moment and take a look into one of many possible futures, where there has been a price drop on the Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii. It's looking more and more likely that at least the 360 and PS3 will be seeing price reductions, and we're interested in what that means for your buying plans. It's time to let your voice be heard.

So let's assume a price drop of at least $50, and possibly $100, would you finally take the plunge and buy that shiny gaming console you've had your eye on?

Would a price drop cause you to buy a current-gen system?
Yes sir, I was waiting for the price drop to buy. 46%

Nope, still not interested 9%

I already own the systems I'm interested in 45%

I'm not looking forward to seeing what kind of console war is going to happen in the comments, but let's go ahead and ask: what console would you be most likely to buy, if all the systems enjoyed a price drop?

If you're going to buy, what console would you most likely get after a price drop?

Nintendo Wii 7%

PlayStation 3 64%

Xbox 360 29%

It should be fascinating to find out what people are looking to buy, not simply what they already own. If you have any other thoughts on the possible upcoming price drops—including the fact that technically the Elite price drop is more likely a change in storage space more than a savings—let's see them in the comments

==> this is from an american website, full of american/uk Xbox360 supporter (as most of the internet)

and guess who is largely leading the show .... the PS3 !!!

Sure Sure, those people may, in majority, already own a Xbox360 and so don't need to buy another one. But considering how close PS3 and Xbox360 line-up are, one could expect that it will impact more negatively on the "PS3 voices" in the poll. You can also argue that Arstechnica may be full of "electronic gadget lover" that are "pro-PS3 Blu-Ray" but people doing the poll may come from a large array of different websites surfing around to get more infos.

To me, those results still show 1 thing :

people still love Sony Playstation Brand and most of them are ready to buy a PS3 if the price is reduced.

I think its pretty common knowledge that price is the major barrier preventing PS3 from being as successful as it could potentially be.

So more people are waiting for a price drop on the PS3 than on the 360 or the Wii? Knock me over with a feather!

well, between the PS3vs360, outside the internet,

Wouldnt be vgchartz without it!

I dont get it.

I have 3 360s cause they are 199... I have 0 PS3s cause they are 399.

If 360 goes down to 149 I probably wont get a 4th one. But if PS3 goes down to 249...well then PS3 is winner.

Hardly surprising.

I know a LOT of people who are waiting for a PS3 price drop.

what is your point ?

PS3 price cut is more important and will drive more sales because PS3 is the most expensive console ?

I agree.

but I m not sure you should take yourself as an example. I mean : 3 * 360 ... that doesn't seem representative to me
