wow people still want a port of a game that is the forth in the series?

1) they won't get the storyline.
2) the MGS fans already own the game.

i just wonder how well Rising is going to do, i think it won't be much story based.

Well have you ever thought they want it because they played it already? Or the amazing Metal Gear Online?

if they really are fans then they bought the wrong system =s

its like im buying a ps3 and waiting for Gears to come out on it, why not buy the system that have the games you want?

Well there has to be a least a few games you want on another system you don't own right?

@pullus

I think the reason people might want it is because a lot of ps2 owners went to xbox.

Also, it really depends how much redundancy data is need to run the game. You could always just install that portion off of one disc and then make the rest of the discs level data. Even so, it would still be 7-8 discs and would require HD install.
His point about 17 discs isn't FUD. Whether or not MS really does disallow mandatory install is the whole case about installing redundancy data.

Also, to the guy wondering why ps3 version needed an install every chapter: It is because the game needs to unpack itself since it's heavily compressed. The specialized SPU helps that job get done faster. Typically, a game can unpack while it's playing, but with the sheer amount of data in that game, it really requires the game to unpack most of everything beforehand. That is why the install isn't that large, because it can compress faster off of the hard drive than off of the BR due to the read speed difference.

The guy seems to speaking the truth, now the numbers he pulls out although some what exaggerated do pro his point as far as multi DVD go.

Some key things to point out:-
- MGS4 engine is exclusively designed for the PS3, since it's not a multiplatform engine it will need to be ported
- A new multiplatform engine is being created for MG:R, since their busy with this engine I doubt they'd spend resources porting an old engine to the 360
- MGS4 has allot of native 1080p footage
-50 GB worth of game data according to the studio

Now porting to the 360:-
- will involve time and money to port the engine over along with assets
- 1080p footage will have to be down scaled to 720p native to reduce memory taken on disc
- critical data the game needs will need to be replicated in all the DVD's, while the rest will simply be new story/location data
- multiple DVDs will need to be used to store the game, I'm guessing it'll be 4 or more
- the game has to be optimised so that game locations and other content fills the disc and yet at the same time disc swapping isn't required half way through a stage
- Multiple DVD = increase the cost of manufacturing, and decrease profits

So with all the above taken into consideration, one can see the cost starting to out wiegh the potential profits that a year old game could make, and mind you this port would be targeted at a console and user base where Konami doesn't know if their audience is for the port to sell well enough...so from business stand point, a port would cost to much and would be to risky to even bother with.

I do however see Konami double dipping by releasing MGS4: subsistence or something similar, it'll be cheap cuz everything there, all they'll probably add is any stage that might have got cut out, and then charge ya like 60 bucks, and no matter the sales it's literally pure profit for them, very low risk when compared to a 360 port.

lol, so every metal gear solid game from now on is just going to be crap?

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker wont be.

Metal Gear Solid: Rising though, is set to be poop.

I'm not actually looking forward to MGS:Peacewalker very much. On the other hand I'm anxiously waiting for any more info on MGS: Rising, which is a day one buy for me already. From what has been said so far on the game it sounds like it will be badass. I liked Raiden a ton in MGS4 so I look forward to being able to play as him. I know he was a bit lame in MGS2 but he redeemed himself with MGS4.

As for Seece's question...I was keeping my fingers crossed for MGS4 to come to X360 in some form. After the announcement of MGS:Rising I don't care if it does much. That and add in the fact that I currently own it on my PS3. I just would have liked to see an X360 version come out with achievements and perhaps a not so crappy online setup.

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.

First and foremost I am an Xbox/X360 fan. Followed by being a SEGA fan and Nintendo fan. I didn't even own a Playstation until around 1998 and bought it used from a friend. I did own Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy 7 and a few other big titles. I am a MGS fan but I'm not in love with it so to speak. I do own a Playstation 3 but it wasn't MGS4 that helped validate that purchase. For me it was, Resistance:Fall of Man! I went with X360 first because I loved what the Xbox offered previously and the games and dashboard intrigued me. I also prefer the X360 controller over the Dualshock 1/2/3. Here's my favorite thing I would like to point out on your statement above that I... oh so highlighted.

I saw all this coming back when the support started coming in for the X360 in 2005!

How many major game franchises/series now reside on both and/or coming to both a Sony and/or Microsoft platform that were only on a Sony/Nintendo platform previous generations?    I'll go ahead and post a few: Ridge Racer, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Star Ocean, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, Tales of..., Final Fantasy, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Magna Carta, Castlevania. My point is you can't go off of previous gens to decide what system is best for you. You need to look at whats out for it and whats coming out in the future. People that bought a PS3 expecting these games to be exsclusive to PS3 can only blame themselves. Some of these titles aren't even on the PS3 yet are coming or are on X360 already even. It isn't hard to see why any of these series/franchises are going multi this gen and late into last gen somewhat also.

you do know that the average ps3 owner is ~30 years old right?

Figures that you're an xbox owner (average age 17).

I'm not sure just how accurate what you said would be. I mean out of say a dozen of my friends maybe 2 have a PS3 and I have friends that are anywhere between 18-30.
