Its not that impressive ... If Sony would put up more PSone titles and allow instant PSP downloads , the numbers would have been much batter IMO ...

I have a Wii and a 360. The Virtual Console has not convinced me to buy one single game yet. The main reason? No demo to try out. Plus the fact that not one of the games has been brought into the 21st century.

Meanwhile, I must own close to 15-20 XBLA games and actually want to buy more. If you want to send me a Christmas gift - get me a MS Points card from Best Buy, please.

I have no clue how overall Wii's VC #'s are compared to MS's XBLA numbers. Someone's gotta know.

you also need to remeber not everyone with wii is online--i mean i just read over on yahoo tech news that only about 40% of wii in japan are online

It is a lot, I would of thought there would of been more freaks like me though who have downloaded about 25 VC games, so many I needed a 2gig SD card.

What is 360's Live Arcade total downloads?

At E3 the numbers for XBL and PSN for all downloads (demos, videos, games etc) were:

XBL - 45 million

PSN - 25 million

They never gave a breakdown of the numbers but there was an article claiming that XBLA had 20 million downloads.

There is a good reason most of the high ranking Wii games are VC titles - they are awesome games.

Check out one of the threads on this board - goes over the top 6 or 7 titles. You can't lose getting any of them.

If you haven't played them - you owe yourself to at least *try* one of them. Ocarina, Mario 64, Sin & Punishment, Castlevania IV, Zelda 1, Waverace, Paper Mario, etc...

If the gfx are holding you back, then just wait for WiiWare titles.

...

I'd like someone to name any of the XBLA titles that are better games than the top tier of VC titles. Is there anything that competes with Ocarina or Paper Mario for instance?

Hrm, ive got 24 VC console games, so many classics though, it just makes me smile to see them all lined up on my console. Keep them coming! BRING ON DOSHIN THE GIANT! (64DD version i think)

Doshin the Giant was released for the Gamecube in Japan and europe, but not in america as far as I know. I spent €10 on this game and I regret doing so.

Yeah but the game was based off of the 64DD version that was never released outside of Japan, im just wondering whether it is possible for it to be released on the virtual console because of that or if they are going to force me and go out and find a gamecube Doshin the Giant (almost impossible)

Classic is another word for "old" or "nostalgia inducing", maybe even "simplistic"...  Play most of these 'classics' for more than 10 minutes and you're like "Yeah, not quite as good as I remember."

Case in point: When I first got my XBox, I kept saying "Double Dragon would be perfect for XBox Live Arcade" on the xbox.com forums.  Well, they put it up and after trying the Demo, I didn't even care to download and unlock the full game.

And by updated, I meant things like Online play/leaderboards.  Updated graphics and achievements are just gravy for most of us...

I'm 32 years old and I've been a gamer since I was about 5. I know all about these 'Classics'...

Graphics aren't what's holding me back.

As for your "I'd like someone to name any of the XBLA titles that are better" bit, that's all subjective.  All I'll say, which I've already said: I've bought 0 VC titles and I've bought 15 XBLA titles, if not more.

I played Super Mario a bunch when it came out. It just does NOT appeal to me anymore. Even if they brought it to XBLA somehow, with updated graphics, I couldn't care less.
