Taken right from the article. It is easy to see the huge mistake made by both capcom and retailers. The initial million copy shipment forced both into a situation that they can't get out of. The bundles are probably sold out or pretty close to it. Whereas the standalone isn't selling that well. Capcom can't send another shipment out because they still have 300,000 copies still on the shell.  Seeing that the standalone copy isn't selling to expectation and fear that the stock will just sit, has forced retailers to drop price. Hopefully with the holiday and the price drop, retailers can get rid of their stock. From then on it is lesson learned and they move on. Most likely there won't be many standalones after the next couple of weeks.

 

It is a real shame for MH3 because this blunder will probably cost the game quite a bit.

 

they should have learned that in Japan you need to bundle a classic controller with the game.  Capcom should have already known this from their test with MHG that's what is dumb about this whole thing. 

THe bundles with the classic controller are not sold out.

That's not what i'm getting at, the problem is that 1 SKU is still at only 50% sell through and that is what is causing the price drops.  If it was at 70% sell through like MH3 is at total right now there would probably only be a minor price drop.

also, to all those mentioning MGS.. well.. MGS cannot be classified in the same way that MH is. MH is a distinctively high selling JAPANESE game, where as MGS is a distinctively high selling JAPANESE game that sells well outside of Japan, where as MH does not.

LOL @ you sir, in ur face seriously, lol. MH-Tri it's on its path to surpass every other MH on a console, it sold already more than MGS4, or any other game on both X360 and ps3 in japan. It's gonna get to a million, and you dare to make such stupid claims??? Sir, you are delusional =)

PS3 harware base when MGS4 launched: 2.2milj.

Wii hardware base when Monster Hunter tri launched: 8.3milj.

Best selling MGS game in japan (MGS2): 870k

Best selling Monster Hunter game in Japan: 3.35milj.

Maybe that should tell you something...and I don't say that MH3 bombed but it hasn't sell as well as expected.

Oh, so we go by hardware base? Damn, i always thought God of War 1 & 2 sold well, but they freaking BOMBED hard too i guess.
