Forums - Sales - Why do people say Gran Turismo isnt big in NA??????

GT is big in America but people think GT isn't big because of the big drop of sales in GT4. And also GT5P sold a quite alot more in EU than in NA.
Maybe its because of this?

you can't compare a Shooter to a Racing game!!!!!!! What the **** those guy are talking about... lol

I want Gran turismo For Christmas.

I almost forget to say that gran turismo 5 will be better than Forza 3

Because it isn't. Well, I guess it depends on how you determine it. Compared to GT in Europe, it isn't. And that isn't compared to Europe's solid numbers, but GT there compared to other games. It's complicated, yeah.

GTs (on Ps2) in the different areas

GT3:

Americas: 3rd best selling (although heavily bundled)
Others: 2nd best selling
Japan: 5th best selling

GT4:

Americas: 15th best selling
Others: 3rd best selling
Japan: 12th best selling

However, we have to keep in mind that this is really wasn't rather than isn't.

GT is large in all the 3 regions. I believe most people claim that it is just smaller in Americas, not small.

Gran Turismo 5 prologue

  • Japan: 0.57
  • America: 0.67
  • Others: 1.75

Forza 2

  • Japan: 0.04
  • America: 2.47
  • Others: 1.48

Halo 3

  • Japan: 0.12
  • America: 7.22
  • Others: 2.64

So you see, if the relative sales hold fairly steady between Forza 3 and Gran Turismo 5 and considering their prequels it's not hard to imagine that Forza 3 would sell more than Gran Turismo in America, especially considering the 2:1 install base difference in that region between the Xbox 360 and PS3.

So yes, the people saying that Gran Turismo 5 may not be so important in the U.S.A. do have a leg to stand on, its this thread which is a leg or two short.

Tease.

It's big everywhere, it's just most impressive in Others.

Denial.

People dont want to belive that Gran Turismo can outsell another certain racing franchise.
Also, a lot of people want to belive that Halo > Gran Turismo, which is false.

I have to agree with most of this. Halo being better than GT is an opinion however, not a fact and vice-versa. Someone who says that isn't necessarily wrong if it's their opinion.

Im talking about sales

sales??? according to vgchartz none of gt game sell more than halo3.

did I miss something or??????

yes, all GT main games have outsold halo.

Actually only 2/4 have outsold Halo 3.

Wow Squilliam, comparing a spinoff to mainline series games and ignoring that one game was heavily bundled in America AND counting GT: Prologue as a prequel to GT5? I hate to say it, my good sir, but that was complete and utter fail. Make a better attempt next time.

By VGC numbers, that is true.

Considering the ratios also hold fairly steady with GT4 I don't see the problem.

GT4

  • Japan: 1.16
  • America: 2.76
  • Others: 5.72

Relative sales of the PS2 as at end of 2004:

  • Japan:
    17,570,667
  • America:
    30,753,618
  • Others:
    28,099,673

Relative sales of the PS3 as at now:

  • Japan:
    3,317,247
  • America:
    8,983,978
  • Others:
    10,779,385

So you can see the attach rates are actually fairly comparable.
