Forums - Gaming - inFamous or Uncharted: Which is least suitable for children

I'm a bit tired of doing sarcastic and flippant stuff, so something a little more serious. I want your opinion on which of these 2 games you think is least suitable for kids?

I'm not talking about 5-year olds I'm talking your pre-teens.

The reason I'd like to get people's thoughts on this is because here inFamous and Uncharted have different ratings, and I think they should really be the same.

Our unrestricted ratings are G, PGR and M, so anyone of any age can walk into a game store and buy these games; inFamous is an M. Our restricted ratings are R13, R16 and R18, unless you look like and old fart (like me) or you have age ID it's illegal for game stores to sell young'uns these games; Uncharted is an R16.

I reckon inFamous is in essence no different to Uncharted in terms of stuff that's unsuitable for kids (violence and bad language). The only thing that stands out as different for Uncharted is blood splatter. The thing that stands out for inFamous is the good vs evil karma thing.

What do you think should Uncharted be age restricted while inFamous is not? Should they both be M rated or should they both be age restricted? or did they get the rating for each correct?

I think they maybe got Uncharted to high and inFamous too low and both should be R13, same as Assassin's creed.

I think Uncharted is least unsuited for children.

Neither of them is particularly inappropriate. Using your Kiwi system, I would probably give them both M or R13- I don't quite understand, what does the M mean? I know in Australia it's basically "no little kids!", but then they only have that, PG, G and MA15+, so if I'm correct:

G- Everyone.
PGR (PG?)- Project Gotham Racing, OR kids who are 6+
M- Kids who are 10+

And the others are obvious. If one is higher than the other, I would rate inFamous higher because it has just as much bad language, and you have the option to be an evil bastard and kill everything in sight. Uncharted has more blood, but what is blood except a spray of red pixels? I would give M to both- neither has enough objectionable content for the law to protect children from them.

I thought inFamous was worse, personally, though I have no idea why it'd be M. I think it's mostly because of the blood and the dark tone of inFamous, while Uncharted was brighter.

Current playing: No More Heroes

Edit: nvm re-read OP

I agree though both would fit the R13 rating

No, R13 is worse than M, because R13 is actually restricted- from what Binary Solo said, a 10 year old can walk into a store and legally buy an M-rated game. The store might not let him, but if they do, they've done nothing wrong.

Drake says "Shit" at the start of the game.

Thats a bad word that kids should not here rofl drakes waffles oh so good. :I

^ - heh, lol.

Also I think that Drake using real weapons might have something to do with it. I mean , he shoots people in the face. Very easy to mimic by children using daddy's guns.

The end of Drake's fortune might have something to do with it....

OK I haven't finished Uncharted so I don't know what's at the end. The warning statement only says violence, so I'm assuming the end isn't a steamy sex scene between Drake and Elena; but don't say anything either way.

Just so people are clear: Uncharted is only one rating removed from games that have gratuitous violence, F-words liberally thrown around, nudity and loads of drugs; i.e. GTA IV. Whereas inFamous is only 1 rating removed from Guitar Hero 5.

It may be the fact of Uncharted using real guns. It seems the ratings board is a lot less worried about "fantasy" violence as opposed to "real world" violence.

@ Kantor: G & PG/PGR would be the same as in Aussie. M= recommended for 13+ but not sufficient so much that is needs to be restricted.

I always think there is no rhyme nor reason between games with the M rating and R13 rating. Sometimes it seems Ms should be R13s and R13s could be Ms. Game and movie distributors will fight hard to get a game down from R13 to M because it can mean quite a difference in sales. I bet inFamous went through some intense negotiations to get the M rating.
