Forums - Sony - What does Naughty Dog do after Uncharted 2?

I dont think devs are content with just making their money back and then some. I think all devs dream of making that next big hit. Especially with the InFamous Engine already built and ready to go. Why downgrade everything and make a cel-shaded platformer. Sly would be lucky to crack 1 million on Ps3 which IMO is much less than what Sucker Puncher could potentially be selling with a new IP.

Sucker Punch has never really had the money for much advertisements

It isn't the developers who advertise the game, it's the publishers. In this case, it's SONY.

I think if Sly 4 were to come out, there's a high chance that it ends up being on PSP and not Ps3. There just isn't a fanbase for it on Ps3 right now and it's not the type of game that would get people to buy a Ps3 to play it.

InFamous was a step in the right direction and will go on to sell well over a million copies.

Yeah, sorry "pretty successful" is rather subjective as far as R&C goes. I don't know whether R&C made a profit or not on the PS3 yet.

But, remember, many PS3 games haven't sold 1.5 million copies yet.

I know development is a numbers game, but I do wish for devs to take a chance and release another Sly and J&D.

...and you'd feel comfortable with those games going up against Gears 3 and Halo:Reach?

C'mon man. Sony isnt competing with Nintendo anymore. They're competing with 360 for that 16-32 age group.

I don't think that Sony will ever win the war by going with the exact same games as the 360.

Xbox LIVE guarantee that those two games will be successful and sorry but PSN is not swaying that many people to give up XBL. I believe that more than anything else right now, XBL is selling 360 consoles. People who play online want to play with their friends and chances are that most of their friends are on XBL.

I have PSN and XBL, but when a multiplatform game comes out, its an easy decision which version I want to buy. I know my friends are on XBL, so I buy the game for the 360. The PS3 games I buy are either exclusives or single player games that don't have a strong multiplayer component.

Sony needs to get back to the diverse lineup that the PS2 offered that no one else could match, not keep try to go head to head with the 360.

One of my best friends just bought a PS3 because he loved LittleBigPlanet tonight. Normally, he's a major shooter person and decided he had to have the PS3 because of the game. That's how Sony want to get people. By giving them a little taste of everything.

LittleBigPlanet is more popular and received higher ratings than all of the Sly Cooper games though. While I agree diversity is great, Sly would go pretty much unnoticed and fly under the radar this gen.

Why do you think they made InFamous instead of going directly into Sly4?????

I expect a Jak revival!

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Naughty Dog will make Uncharted 3 then Uncharted Team racing
then they will move on and make a new ip

Hopefully a Jak title or U3.

Jak 4 next year. There are many rumours from E3 that ND hinted at this, and they have said they want to return to the series, but hopefully we will be told at the end of the Lost Frontier

After that Uncharted 3 and Uncharted Team Racing

Uncharted 3. I don't think ND are going to make another Jak until they're the size of Insomniac and are capable of making both simultaneously.

Uncharted Team Racing already came out. It's called MotorStorm.

Unless ND tool up with more personnel, then they will probably continue the 2 year game cycle for the foreseeable future.

Seeing as we will see the 2nd Uncharted within the PS3's 3rd year of a long cycle, I see no reason (unless U2 bombs badly) for a 3rd to appear on the PS3 within the next 3/4 years.

I have the sneaky feeling though that ND have been slowly developing a Jak & Daxter game for a little while now and may have it ready for release late next year.

Although through all this, I also get the feeling that they may try and create a new IP, and I reckon Sony will back them on this looking at the success of Uncharted and what U2 looks like it may do.

So my prediction is this:

October 2009 - Release Uncharted 2

Late 2009 to early 2010 - Release patches and multiplayer levels for Uncharted 2

Late 2010 - Release Jak & Daxter

Late 2011 - Release new IP

Late 2012 - Release Uncharted 3

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

I would say Uncharted 3 or J & D PS3 to capitalize on the success of J & D PSP. Insomniac is still making Ratchet, so why wouldn't ND make a new J & D or SP a new Sly at some point on PS3.
