Forums - Sales - What will be the top 10 best selling titles of 2009?

I'd say GT PSP could just scrape in there - will sell huge in Japan and have alot of sales from PSP GO bundles + Selling to it's exsisting PSP audience. Will probably be Sony's big PSP xmas title too.

Maybe might be hard to track with PSP downloads? I don't know how they'll bundle it with the PSP GO... hmm.

Anywho your chart looks about right if we split 360 / PS3 sales. I'd expect GT PSP 9th and MW2 PS3 10th though.

There's a new EA Sports Active out by xmas aint there? They mentioned it at E3... could split sales.

Here is mine :

1- Wii Sports (obviously!)
2- Wii Fit
3- Wii Sports Resort
4- Mario Kart Wii
5- Wii Play
6- New Super Mario Bros. Wii
7- Pokemon Platinum
8- Dragon Quest IX
9- Modern Warfare 2 (X360)
10- EA Sports Active

11- Mario Kart DS or New Super Mario Bros. or Wii Fit Plus

Just for reference, this is the current top 10 worldwide:

1
Wii Fit
Nintendo 7,723,011
2
Wii Sports
Nintendo 7,704,595
3
Mario Kart Wii
Nintendo 3,865,987
4
Wii Play
Nintendo 3,594,315
5
Dragon Quest IX: Protectors of the Starry Sky
Square Enix 3,411,978
6
Pokémon Platinum Version
Nintendo 3,311,356
7
Resident Evil 5
Capcom 2,352,581
8
Resident Evil 5
Capcom 2,262,881
9
Mario Kart DS
Nintendo 2,019,456
10
Wii Sports Resort
Nintendo 1,990,070

I believe that New Super Mario Bros. Wii will do admirably, and that Call of Duty will sell like crazy. 10 million over all platforms is garantueed. Especially now that everything else was moved to next year.

Wii Sports Resort should be able to do at least 6 million before years end, 10 million at the high end. Wii Fit should probably sell another 5-8 million (not considering Wii Fit+). Wii Sports will be at the top.

The bottom part is probably the most interesting.

Dragon Quest is at 3.4M, and sold 175K last week. Around 4-4.2M by the end of the year seems likely.

I over-estimated CoD Ps3. The series isn't that large on the platform, and ~ 3M seems more likely. It doesn't have a shot at the top 10 really.

EA Sports Active is at 1.6M, and looks to be stablising at around 70K for Americas + Others. However, it has yet to launch in Japan (it does so this week). I'm not sure about its sales there, but ~ 400K seems like a fair guess. Anyway, I'd say it looks like it will sell ~ 2/3 of MKWii, which will put it at 2.5-3M. I expect it to slightly outedge Dragon Quest IX, with a range of anywhere between 4 and 5M.

MKDS and NSMB are up 14% from last year, and they ended at 4.4M then. 4-5M might be lowballing it a bit, 4.3-5M seems more likely.

Looking at it single platform-wise.... I think Modern Warfare 2 on X360 is almost certain to make the top 10. I don't think any other non-Nintendo console game will make it.

Combining multiplats MW2 will obviously make the cut (even without PC) While Resident Evil 5 has a chance at the bottom of the pack (9th/10th)

I can't be bothered going into more detail.... the rest will be Nintendo platform games though.

2009 has become a year of few releases. There aren't many competitors for joining the top 10 left, so I'm wondering how the people of VGChartz see the rest of the year shaping.

The only upcomming title that I feel I can predict fairly is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The original (on X360) sold 4M in its first year. MW2 launches at the same time, but it has yet to be confirmed that it will launch in Europe for 2009. So, I feel the realistic prediction is 4-5M for the X360 version, and 3-4M for the Ps3 version.

I made this list for what I believe will be the sales of the already released titles (but also including CoD:MW2)

Of course it launches in Europe in 2009. World at War released 3 days later in Europe. CoD4 released 3 days later as well. Why would they break this pattern and make it launch 2 months later?

The 360 version will easily make the top 10, with a good 4.5 million sales. The PS3 version should have around 3 million, which probably won't put it in there.

Gran Turismo 5 could make it in, if it launches early enough.

Wii Sports Resort will be in there

Pokemon Platinum, if you count it, will be in there.

Just out of curiosity, why wouldn't you count it?

I meant if you would count it as a 2009 title. It released in 2008 in Japan, didn't it? Same with FF13 for 2010.
