Forums - Gaming - When did the graphics/specs phase really kick off?

The arrogance of it started when Genesis and Snes launched. Nintendo competed, or won, most of these fights. The Wii finished the argument.

Actually, Sega's blast processing won most arguments until Donkey Kong Country came out. DKC won Nintendo the console war, but it was close.

When games started to have color.

graphics phase started pre-consoles with mattel and coleco's handheld games, basically saying my leds are prettier than your leds, no joke
anyway Mattel vs Atari started the whole graphics war, With George Plimpton in all his glory informing the public of how much more lifelike and detailed mattel's games were than atari's
so it has always been a graphics phase, evier since there were 2 competitors with commercial presence (atari did not need to compete with the Studio 2 and Fairchild so there was no graphics war for the first 2 years)

I HAVE A DOUBLE DRAGON CAB IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!!

NOW A PUNISHER CAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

16-bit. It may have started earlier but at the age I was aware of this stuff (like 7-12) was the 16-bit era. I remember seeing commercials on TV saying that the Genesis has "blast processing" and the SNES didn't... whatever tf that was.

I think that is when it really kicked off as well.
