I imagine a game like a cake.

Originally, you pay $50 and you get your cake.

Lately, it feels like you pay $50 and the baker gives you half the cake. You ask what's going on and the baker says you can buy each additional piece for $10.

So because the baker decides to make a more expensive cake, you get less for the same cost and now have to pay more to get it all. The cake you do get might taste a little better than the old cake, but you're still not getting as much for your money.

I don't mind being able to buy more cake at an additional price but when I plop down $50, I expect to get one full cake. The baker can sell me additional cakes or cupcakes afterward but I want a whole cake up front.

So... who's hungry?

They are good! Oblivion was one of my first PS3 games and I love it. I can't wait for Elder Scrolls IV.

... I don't know if I agree with that.  Especially where Bethesda is concerned.  Both oblivion and Fallout 3 easily have over a 100 hours of gameplay on the disc itself.  Which to me is like 4 cakes.

Huh? Bethesda has one of the worst reputations from DLC! Their DLC is unbelievably overpriced. Doesn't everyone remember Horse Armor?!

And from Fallout 3, their DLC should've been priced around 5$, because that's as much as they're giving, and let's face it, so far it's been very disappointing.

DLC IS the worst thing. All it offers is something that the mod community could have easily made for a charge. Skins, New levels, few new weapons, are not worth any money. I mean take a look at Neverwinter Nights. THere's a community expansion for free that is 3.5 gigs of stuff on it. I kid you not, 3.5 gigs.

If you want more content make an expansion, and not one a commmunity can make. Diablo II's Lord of Destruction is still the best expansion out there when it comes to value.

Have you played any of Fallout 3's DLC?  Hopefully, since it is kind of the point of this thread.  EAch one of them is an expansion and for 10 bucks a piece they are well worth it.  Bethesda does DLC better than anybody.  I would gladly pay the 10 bucks for one of Bethesda's huge DLC's than download a crappy community made garbage.  You aren't going to find a mothership theta quality community made content.

I'm not saying that mods aren't awesome, because they are.  However, when you make DLC as awesome as Bethesda does and charge a respectable price (10 bucks) you can't complain.  I agree that most DLC sucks which is the point of this thread.  Why can't other developers be more like Bethesda when it comes to DLC?

yep, you will. for fallout 3, so far apparently not, but for other games, you do. UT (2k4 and III) mods alone sometimes only lack the polish (and therefore, budget) of retail releases.

but you're still right about Bethesda's (new) downsized expansions being better than most out there, looks like they learned from their own terrible and stupid example. but everyone keeps buying the other ones (costumes, etc) so I don't see anything changing soon.

The Horse Armor price was symbolic! It was a way for the fans to pay homage to the greatest game developer in the world for making a fantastic game.

If anything is great value for your buck, it's Bethesda games and their DLC.

An Oblivion or Fallout 3 DLC could give you 5-10 hours worth of play (minimum) for only 800pts/$10!

That's very cheap compared to a game like Star Wars The Force Unleashed, Heavenly Sword, Prince of Persia or whatever that gives you 10 hours for $60.

More developers releasing buggy software? Haven't we had enough? xD

j/k

Bethesda is doing a great job offering DLC's.
Sure the horse armor was ridiculous, but hey it was their first DLC, you can't blame them for that. Now they're releasing quality expansions (granted they could make longer beta testing before releasing them).

Whoa. Was that The King of The Spins that I just read?
