Forums - Sony - Batman: Arkham Asylum Demo

Just played the demo of Batman: Arkham Asylum, and so far I'm liking it allot, infact it's turned into a must buy game for me.

Now the PS3 demo was short but here are some key things I liked:-

- Very detailed characters

- Beautiful graphics

- very good character animations

- stealth mechanic

- stealth kills

- combat is easy

- easy controls for climbing things and doing stealth kills

- very good voice acting

Now this is a great game based on a comic hero, they could of done a shit job and shite some thing out when the Dark knight came out, but they disregarded that and went on to make a quality game, very impressed so far.

It't kind of funny how the demo sold me the game, because when I 1st hear about it I simply thought it was gonna be some shit comic hero game, then there were some pictures and videos but I still wasn't sold on it, what peaked my interest is when I heard that it was going to be similar to how bioshock was done, but after some time my interest faded again.....that is until I played the demo, and in one 20min time I was sold and was left extremely impressed as well as the fact that I'll be getting this game no questions asked.

Anyway, post your thoughts of the demo and weather or not your going to get it?

I played a PS3 demo 2 months ago that was sent to EB games exclusively...

Is the demo you played the beat em up section where batman coutners every attack using triagle?

hmmm, the demo I played looks like it some where in the begining cuz you start by bring in the joker and shortly after he's gotten loose and has taken over the asylum, you beat some criminals, then go down a corridor and this dude is threatening to electrocute this officer is anyone gets closer, that were the game teaches you about detective mode and using your grape hook, you get behind the dude and then do a silent take down. just about the end of the demo, the joker release some mutant human on you which I assume is a boss fight, or a mini boss...but you never fight him as that's when the demo ends.

does that sound about what you played?

I have to agree with Destoyer that the demo made me automatically want the game. I played it after noticing it on the European PSN and thought that maybe it would be more like final fight or something mediocre. Soon as the game loaded up I was just blown away at how detailed everything was and ran. The combat and pacing is very close to the feeling I had while playing Bioshock (fantastic graphics and even deeper game play). This is not a "mindless" brawler type of game no this is more akin to a stealth game like chronicles of Riddick just in third person. The camera keeps up with the pace of combat and the game has that"polish", this game should show all developers how to really do Batman on a console.

Hate you all -_-

I have to wait another four hours to get home and download this.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

No.  What I played was a simple beat em up section that wasn't very impressive...but it was 2-3 months ago. I will try the new demo when available...

Everything in the demo spoke quality from the models, animation, voice overs, design, etc.

Looks to have variety in game play as well with emphasis on stealth and tactics, observation and situational awareness when dealing with armed (firearms) enemies. Running headfirst into gunfire looks like one of the quickest ways to die (no magic health regeneration during battle). Detective mode reminds me a lot of the "animal senses" mode in Wolverine, but it's a good game play element.

So it's not just a brawler with counters.

I pre-ordered from Amazon after one run through it, played through it again just for good measure. It's currently $53 with an additional $5 off promotion "5offarkm".

Looking forward to playing this on release despite the big back catalog of games I'm currently working on.

I've been looking at gameplay videos of this recently and this game maybe a day one purchase for me, can't wait to try the demo.

The graphics of the character models in the trailers were much better. All I saw was jaggies, jaggies and jaggies.
I can understand that for games like GTA and infamous, but not here. I hope that the 360 version will feature 2x AA...

I couldn't play the demo for no longer than 10 minutes, but I'm overall not that impressed yet.

It looked pretty sharp on the PC display I used. I could play it on a larger 1080p HDTV to compare, but I already know what to expect when swapping displays.

It was between the PS3 version and the PC version for me. PS3 gets the extra play challenges with Joker and the PC version won't be released for another three weeks after console release (with PhysX enhancements).

The Xbox version doesn't offer anything extra.
