I just messin XEN, i wouldn't do that to you....but i tellin you guys this will be a genre evolving game

I don't want to look like I'm doubting that it'll be good, but genre evolving how? JRPG's haven't changed much since the SNES sweet times... the only difference is that the quality dropped...

Are you kidding here Xen? JRPGs haven't changed since the SNES? What are you talking about?

And there are many who hold the belief that SNES was not the golden age for RPGs.

Cliche stories and characters? check.

Grinding? check.

Mini games? check.

Battle system linked by common rules established way back when? check.

there are exceptions... but... very few.

Also, lots of people hold the SNES as the best console for JRPG's to this day. See the forums. I'm not included though.

Besides Persona and Disgaea, what games do you grind for anymore? Outside of Demon's Souls, I can't think of one!

I know you hate the game, but Final Fantasy XII did major innovations in the battle system. And there are few exceptions because the fanbase doesn't want their games to change. It's why people still buy remakes more than new original titles.

You can't blame developers for not innovating much, whenever its the same old that sells more.

Japanese gamers are at fault for this.  They tend to hate innovation in their RPGs.  Look at how much critizism FFXII got from Japanese gamers.  This is why Japanese developers are looking more towards the West, becuase Western gamers are more open towards new IPs and innovation.

Does it now? Famitsu gave the game a perfect score.

The west however mostly shunned the game and didn't buy it. In Europe, the game didn't even sell a million!

It should be a punishable crime to make such linear games like that. Just horrible.

That clip makes me claustrophobic.

I am talking the general population in Japan, not some magazine that might give scores to games based on hype.  The West did not shun the game, it sold very well in America and decent in Europe.

^ It's always best to back up claims with numbers... It makes it easier for people to believe an argument.

@starterman1989

There are sales numbers for this game on VGChartz.  The game has over 1.8 million copies approx. in America and over 840K in Europe.

^ yuppp, that's what i mean. It's a lot easier to believe what you're saying if you say it that way.

Although since the game sold the best in Japan, it's still kinda hard to justify saying the general population of Japan doesn't like the game, compared to NA & EU...

When you compare XII to X sales, you will actually see that Japan experiences 20% drop on sales, NA 30% drop, and EU 60% drop...

So the rejection of XII actually comes mostly from NA & EU...?

In general yes. And disguised 'corridor shooters' with invisible walls like this is descipable
