Forums - Sales - What if LIVE was totally free?

If Microsft made LIVE totally free, including Gold subscriptions, what affect would it have on 360 sales, and would it affect PS3 sales?

I await your responses with baited breath...

Worldwide internet crash when both Halo 3: ODST and Modern Warfare 2 come out.

In all seriousness
Its now the main point of criticism from my PS3 friends, I don't think it will happen though unless that money from the advertising is rolling in faster then anticipated.

Then it would only be as good as PSN.

yes. I would have bought a 360 if the online was free, it would have been better for my wallet than buying a PS3 thats for sure!

Who knows?

I think it wouldn't make a great difference. If online is very important to you, you're also willing to pay for it - and if it's not very important to you, the question wether it has free online or not is probably not the decisive factor when buying a console.

The sales Microsoft would get from making it free would not equal what they get from charging for it. It might boost sales a tad, but I don't believe it's as much of a sticking point as people think it is. Of course, I could be naive here I guess.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

Microsoft's gaming division would lose a hefty chunk of recurring revenue from gold memberships.

LIVE GOLD

Cool, I can pick custom colors too. I think my gold was more realistic than yours.

Probably not as bad as you'd think now that ads will be on the dashboards.

How does that effect money from gold membership accounts?
