So, what is the point in spending an extra $50 on a DSi compared to a DSL?
I love all 3 of my DSL's but the DSi just seems like such a rip off.

i agree with the OP completely.
i to thought DSiVC was and inevitability but still we're waiting. i thought that was half the reason why nintendo took out the gba slot. making gba games downloadable but keeping the slot would have been pointless.
also making Wii VC downloads playable on both your wii and DSi shouldnt be too difficult surely? even if it does exclude n64 games. the psp doesnt play all of the downloadable titles on psn, if its not a problem with sony customers why would it be with nintendo's?
nintendo tried so hard to show connectivity between their console and handheld with the GC and GBA, it seems to me that it is sony who have got it right a generation later.

What are you talking about? When did Nintendo ever say they were going to implement that and why would they considering they can remake older games and sell them for full price ala S-E and Pokemon? |
Current Handheld Remake - GBA Slot + SD Card Slot + Shop Channel?
The first thing I thought of was a virutal console of some sort? But no, we have a shitty DSiWare shop with hardly any selection.
I expected there to be one as well, but it seems those expectations were misplaced. Rather than wait for what could very well be nothing, I bought another handheld that does what I want out of the box. Problem solved.

DSi VC has never been announced and will come out to excite sales. When they feel the need.
The reason Nintendo doesn't want emulation on the machine is obvious. They don't want people to disrupt their future objectives. Otherwise they wouldn't care since it would be money made anyways. Why would they say no to money. Simple they can make more money when they are ready.
The DSi is not built to cater to the DS market. It was built to further expand the market. This is the reason why the GBA slot was dumped. The people who wanted both have the DS/Lite. There are other reasons for buying the DSi. DSi ware, portable quick camera(non special occasions), music player... If these initial reasons weren't good enough to buy it then why did YOU(@OP) bother to buy it at all. Don't buy something on the hopes, but buy a product that meets your values. This is a case where the consumer willining made a purchase not on misinformation of the company, but by self decision. This is of course if you did buy a DSi. For me I NEVER use the GBA slot so someday soon I will get the DSi.
Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Oh stop whining. The DSi shop was just introduced. It's not like Wiiware had anything amazing the Wii's first 6 months.
Anybody and everybody saying that there's no reason one should expect Nintendo to release this is blatantly ignoring some rather simple logic.
Can Nintendo make money with this?
Would it provide greater amounts of playability?
Would it generate further interest in the DSi in any way?
Is it simple for Nintendo to integrate?
Is there an enormous backlog of old handheld titles available that the regular DS was incapable of playing?
Did Nintendo not just remove the one thing that made the DS capable of playing ANY backlog whatsoever, and add internal memory + expandable memory abilities?
Frankly, every single one of those questions can be answered with a very emphatic "YES". And I, just like so many others, am incredibly interested in being able to once again play a variety of old handheld titles on a handheld.
Look at this backlog of titles that they could make available for download:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Neo-Geo_Pocket_Color_games 92
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WonderSwan_Color_games 102
Going through the lists, we have a grand total of 4100 possible titles.
Need I say more?
However, I do think teh sage is jumping the gun a bit. The DSi hasn't been out for THAT long. Give it a little time. It'll happen.

Pretty much everyone in this thread (except Majin) is saying that it was never announced.
I hope you didn't waste too much time making that post to yell at an imaginary group of people.
