I think Olimar is a great character. It's so rare to have an ordinary family man as a protaganist in any kind of medium. It's even harder to make such a character engaging. Pikmin 2 did that for me. I think the constant emails back and forth together with Olimar's musings about his family and his home really added to the game. Nintendo did a great job with that side of the game, and they didn't need to
