Forums - Sony - Pay for PSN or watch ads in your loading screen?

Well as long as PSN is free then I am okay with ads. If Sony starts charging for PSN then take those ads off!

I find this discussion highly informative. I have two questions. Firstly are these mandatory ads very common on the PS3, and are you having them on single player games as well. Secondly how bad is the load time issue on the PS3. I was under the impression that there were hardly any load times just like the 360. I rarely notice load times on 360 games, and they are usually less then ten seconds even on games like Oblivion of Fallout 3. I never even get the chance to read the little factoids.

Never occurred to me that load times may be bad, or that you guys had to put up with commercials.

They're usually fine.

-Uncharted has long loading times when loading a save, but that can be forgiven, because there are no other loading times in the game.

-BioShock has long loading times when taking the Bathysphere, which is odd, because there is a 5GB install and they took over a YEAR to port it, but it's bearable.

-Oblivion has some long loading times when you go through the Oblivion gates.

This is the very first time I believe ads during load times have been added. It was recently added in the new Wipeout expansion.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

1. i don't think they are common, i've never seen one in any game yet myself.

2. loading times aren't really much but you know how it is, between each game of KZ2 there is a bit of down time and they generally show game tips in these moments.

on topic: over all i dont' mind ads as long as they are done gracefully.  if i'm playing a football game i pretty much expect ads on the statium walls (real or fake) so sony might as well make some money on it.  but if i were playing something like WaW and a subway billboard showed up...umm no.

during loading times...well i wouldn't might then right now but if they became common/accepted i wonder all long it would be until the "lazy developers" had to rely on many more loading screens than the do now.

If it doesn't affect my loading time, I won't mind. Waiting for a match to load is a bore anyway (ESPECIALLY for KZ2)... infact doesn't KZ2 already self advertise during load times? XD

If it's single player, then NO. But the premise was online play anyway though.

I don't mind a few advertisements as long as they change them often, cause i get bored of the same adverts quickly

lol well we dont get Ads on PSN accept in VidZone (the Free music video service) and psn is free, if they want to put a ad in somewhere i would rather they didnt but sure why not
however i will not pay for psn (ever) same as i wont pay for live! plus u pay for live and there are ads everywhere! even on the menus

I don't care as long as the loading screen doesn't suddenly become longer.

This.

The issue with the WipEout ads were that they increased loading times significantly, so they have now been removed, but I have no issue of an ad popping up in a loading screen, so long as it does not feel out of place
