Forums - Sony - Watchmen sets Blu-Ray share record

No, you're not a smart consumer (doesn't mean you're not smart). First, because you still don't know where to find cheaper than 35$ BD.

And then, if you had a >40" TV, you wouldn't question the technical superiority of bluray over dvd. That, or you're frustrated because you don't have a bluray player yet.
So, if you call yourself a smart consumer because you buy dvds to fit your small tv... wow... how smart!!

Bluray did not come too late. It came out too early. It's only interesting for people with HD TVs, and it's still far from majority. As soon as majority of people will have (big)HD TV sets, they will want HD content.

Sorry if I seem rude. I just feel tired of reading the same shit about bluray...
It's HD content... if you don't have a screen that is able to play HD, of course it's not interesting... like driving a ferrari on a dirt road in the desert...

Bluray is a good format, it delivers, when people will have the right equipment, sales will rise even more.

We should compare BD/DVD sales compared to the number of SD-HD/>40" HD TVs, I think it would be interesting.

I've never seen it either.

Gran Torino was superb though, Tranformers 2 though is terrible. Avoid it.

I thought it was pretty good. Too much shaky camera work but excellent cgi effects!

ot: 18 percent is still pretty low, buts its getting there!

@ outlawauron

Ironman opening week was only just over 17%, so yes this is a record

OT: This is good news for Blu-ray, I do expect that Star Trek or Transformers 2 to possibly hit the 40% mark

This is off topic, but does Sony get some percentage of each Blu-ray sale, seeing as they were largely responsible for developing the medium? Is there any way to tell?

I watched first 20-30 mins of Transformers 2, it was boring and awkward, so I decided to skip the rest.

When a guy called Star Scream with a Transformers avatar says a Transformer movie is boring and awkward, you know it's shit.

This is what happens when you make a live action special effects-fest based on a range of toys.

I remember looking at the sales in one of the threads ssj did, and the BluRay version had over 50% of the sales.

Players are already affordable what needs to be slashed is price of new movies.

I don't get why people complain about the movie prices. It's a higher end format, it should be more expensive, but it isn't even! I got Watchmen for 29.99 on Bluray, how much was it on DVD? 29.99

Yes they do. But it's very small % of royalties. So it's pennies per movie... but when you are selling millions of movies it stacks up. They also get some royalties on players too.

^ But they get more Royalties than anyone else as they are the BD association's leading company. Also they get even more money per disk if it's their movie, obviously.

I wonder if Blu-Ray takes off, and hits near DVD levels of dominance - Would all the profits they make counter the losses they have made on the PS3 (Which won them the format war in the first place)?
