The difference is sony has already proved that they commit to 10 year plan, while microsoft lied about the failure rate.

Not to mention that no one knew about the xbox 360 until 6 month before it released.

Hmm, I strongly doubt it.

I don't think it will pass the NES to be honest, and the 360 will sell more than the PS3.

So it will look like this.

1 and 2, PS2 and Wii (not sure if Wii will pass PS2 yet)
3. PS1
4-5 NES, xbox 360
6. PS3.

Also you have the Wii at 130 million, which is roughly 2.5 times it's current amount.

2.5 times the current PS3 amount is 57.5 but I doubt PS3 lasts as long as the Wii since trends show off the first place console continues selling for a long time (NEs, SNES, PS1, PS2 all lasted way longer than the competition, Wii should too).

I see PS3 doubling it's current amount, stopping it at 46 million, maybe it lasts a little longer and pulls off 50 barely surpassing the SNES.

i give the ps3 45-55 mill tops. and the wii 80 - 90 mill. 360 50-60.

The PS3 will never outsell the 360. The 360 is going to stay on the market as long as the PS3 (and a day later) to make sure that never happens. If the PS3 sells 150 M consoles in 10 years, the 360 will most likely sell 170 M.

i don't see the PS3 passing the 60 million mark, I do think you have valid points, especially if the price drops to $300 and the exclusives you named (plus others that will eventually come)

but realistically how many people purchase multiple consoles. yes i know there are some that do as I'm sure many on this site can attest to, but I think the market is going to be so saturated within two years that the PS3 will not surpass 60 mil

if the price drop comes before this holiday season then I think the PS3 may be able to pass the 360 at the end, but if it doesn't I don't think it will be possible (unless sony stays with the PS3 and actually does not release another console for another 7 years)
